Cool Money and Thiefs

Hi,
aproaching to my 1st travel to Thailand I have some questions:

- how do you pay? Always use credit card or pay in Euro/Dollars? Where to change money in Bath...to pay girls...etc...? I do not like use of credit card in places like gogo bars...

- never problem with thiefs? I'll go alone during my travel and I'm a little scared to have problem during the night in Bangkok or Pattaya.... especially in some bars.... Some years ago I was in London and I entered in a PeepShow...there I had problems because requested me 80 euro for a beer...overpriced my account.... I had to combat with a "gorilla" to go out of that ****ing place. Never never will go to London!!!
But the beer was free...

Thanks for report!

I ALWAYS TAKE 2 CREDIT CARDS JUST IN CEAS ONE GETS LOST OR STOLEN !!!!!!!
THERE ARE AS MANY ATM MACHINES IN PATONG AS BGs !!!!!!!!! ITS ALL CASH IN BARS......KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN AND STICK TO THE BUSY AREAS AND YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEMS.......
SO ITS NO PROBLEM WITHDRAWING MONEY FROM YOUR ACCOUNT .............
JONNY.......
ENJOY YOUR TRIP............

Hi,
I always use debit (like cirus/maestro) or credit card (visa). ATMs are widely available in Patong but sometimes, there are experiencing problems (communication lost). I always pay hotels with my card and in 6 years, I never envountered problems. There have been warnings published in newspapers concerning credit card fraud so always check the ATM for a suspicious device before introducing your card. There were also some suspicious places mentionned (ie: a restaurant in Pattaya and a jewellery in Phuket)

Mrarcus, for such a big city, the peepshow places in London/Soho are all legendary rip-off joints. No local people ever go in them - the only people who do are foreign visitors.

You will find that Patong is very very VERY different! Don't worry, relax - and get ready to have the time of your life.

As said before, just use common sense the same as you would do in your own country. ATM, Credit cards, or treveller's checks are good, but don't carry large sums of cash. 4000 or 5000 Baht is usually enough to carry, because you can always go to ATM if you run short. Patong is very safe, very small town kind of atmosphere once you get the feel for it. In BKK, I always felt safe in Sukhumvit area, but did have a girl I picked up on the street try to steal from me while I was in the shower. My own stupidity for bad choice of girls. Better to go to bar. Also, I have not had it happen to me but have heard stories of clip joints like the one you went to in London that are in the Patpong area in BKK, if you are not careful.
