Krabi is a Thai town not much there for a tourist, maybe Au Nang just up the road would be a better choice to spend a night, quite a few bars and restaurants there. There is a regular bus route from Krabi/Au Nang to Phuket town, takes about 2 1/2 to 3 hours then a tuk tuk or taxi to Patong.

Plenty of guest houses and hotels in Krabi town; look in Lonely Planet.
You can buy an all in ticket from Krabi Town to Patong Beach for about 500 Thb. Involves mini bus to pier at Railay beach, nice cruise boat to Phuket town harbour and mini bus to Patong; all for 500 Thb. Much more pleasant than a mini bus all the way IMO.

These Krabi threads don't have many reccomendations for places to stay. I'm thinking of going there in November.

I've never been before and want to do some snorkeling and kayaking. Maybe some island hopping.

Anybody got any current reports or info on the area?

A 40 minute 40 Baht each way sonthew ride regular until about 6pm.

Can't really recommend a hotel as I stay in the cheopo places 400-600 Thb. A.Mansion in Krabi was OK at 700 with a/c, clean, no frills.

Cheap is fine. Not wanting anything fancy. Will probably just pitch up there on Monday. Never been but assume from what I've read probably best to head to Ao Nang where there's a bit more happening than Krabi town?

In Ao Nang Green Park (0 7563 7300)has nice bungalows with a/c for about 1200 in high season. It's up a short road almost opposite the road where all the bars are which is off the main road running north from the beach to Krabi. Family run, will allow "guests".

Ao Nang is basically one beach front road and one road going north to Krabi (where green Park is). Some good sea food restaurants overlooking the sea, lots of massage shops i.e.the usual tourist stuff. OK for 2 or 3 days IMO.

Krabi is more a typical Thai town, relaxing, lots of shops and a staging post for trips elsewhere. You can get a boat from Phuket Town pier to Railay Beach near to Ao Nang. Hope this helps.

Yeah dont stay in Krabi itself I would say.. I dont have a good place to stay there also I just dropped into an over priced place as it was only a few nights and it made Spinner happy. Does Green Park have a pool ??

I think I could do a fair few more than just 2 - 3 days as long as I had some wheels.. Its just stunning scenery up there, great trails all over, hot springs, rock climbing (for those physically minded), canoeing, beaches, islands.. I read some really good sounding info about Koh Jum and really want to go give that a try for a total no phone relax day or 3..

There was a pool on the adjoining accommodation that you could just walk through a few trees to get to but I don't know if there was an agreement between the two sites or not! Best ask the owner of Green Park.

With wheels, yes a lot more possibilities to spend time using Ao Nang as a hub altthough for those on a small budget Krabi would be a lot cheaper because of the range of cheaper accommodation options. Ao Nang is more like a mini Patong and package tour/backpacker place IMO.

i quite like krabi town for a day or two, have friends there.
If you do stay there at all call in pizza firenze and see franco, top italian from florence, homemade pasta, good pizza.
i always stay at the grand tower, nothing towery or grand about it but for an basic aircon room even in high season i only pay 400 bht.

We were staying at Wanna`s Place in Ao Nang for 2 nights and it was pretty ok. They had nice restaurant and pool, beach was just accross the road. The bungalows were also ok and clean.
