'winging it'

I'm trying to pick up the courage to come to Phuket this weekend without having booked a hotel in advance.

I've been conversing with Bill from Summer Breeze. From what i can gather, he's a great chap however unfortunately his establishment is fully booked.

Bill has assured me i'll be able to get in somewhere, and has offered to arrange airport transfer. I just need some extra confirmation from other BM's that i'm not going to end up sleeping on Patong beach with my suitcase!

Lots and Lots of options this time of year. If Bill can't put you up he will send you to a nearby (like next door) hotel. Don't worry. Guess I'm one of those people filling up the S.B. as I arrive Saturday.

Shouldn't think you would have any trouble finding somewhere. In Soi Sansabai, where Summer Breeze is located there are tons of other guest houses. I left Summer Breeze a week ago, and most of the neighboring guest houses had signs with rooms available.

Not a problem at all at this time of year.
Take a place for the first day or two and then look around, there should be plenty of accommodation on offer..

agree with the guys above...no sweat getting a room for the next several months now....my advice is to go a little further out towards the Banzaan markets...still walking distance to Bangla and the beach....and you'll get bag a bargain for sure at this time of the year...songkran + Easter are distant memories and it is now officially low season.

Should not be a problem. Maybe check out the accommodation and transportation section to get a few ideas of places to try.
SB is my top choice also and hope to book my next stay soon before I miss out.

It may not be a problem getting a room, as said it may be quite easy.

Personally, I would book anyway as I little or nothing to be gained by doing it.
You will arrive in Patong with you bags, perhaps you'll pack light, but with bags nonetheless.

What are you going to do?
Walk from hotel to hotel to the better room and/or the better rate?
How many will you visit before making up your mind and how detailed will you be?

All that - while treading a long with your bags in 100ºF/35ºC and high humidity, maybe even rain. Besides the discomfort that I can envision during the mission to find the little bit better deal, I personally would hate to spend my pressures time on that, especially if was only for a weekend.
Of cause you could let the taxi driver recommend a place

If you and I were to arrive on the same flight you would likely be just checking in all hot and sweaty at the time when I am paying for my first Thai massage.

Chaps do not worry him, get the taxi to SB, leave your bags in reception, walk left or right and check in, there are rooms available in most hotels in Soi San sabai at the moment, will take you 5 minutes.

Exactly what I did when I first discovered Patong. I was stuck in Penang with Her Majesties Grey Funnel Line and a bit bored after five or so days as the 'thing' we had come to do didn't materialise. Sorted out a flight with a local travel agents (Smoking Seat & $50 return) to Phuket, taxi to the Beach Road, Patong Villa Pool side loom for 400 Baht a night and the rest as they say.................is History! I only got 'nearly' arrested the once on that trip for stealing Ronald McDonald and sitting him in the shallow end at PV..............Happy Days!

It's a likkle adventure Rodney..........
