Big Hikes in EVA Air from May 9th

Was flagged by TV for this .... but any BM shortly to by using EVA should note the following:-

Quote:
Massive increase in Air fares from May 9

New price sheets effective 09 May for Eva Air, and they are applying what can only be described as irresponsible increases to all their air fares from next Friday.

Example of round trip fares:

Low season London economy was around THB 33,000 and will go to THB 42,500

Low season Amsterdam was around THB 28,000 and will go to THB 34,500

Low season USA was around THB 30,000 and will go to THB 37,000

To add insult to injury they have also introduced a weekend surcharge on the USA! Needless to say the Elite Class fares also go up.

We have no idea how they can justify this, considering that the Baht has strengthened against all currencies the Taiwanese must be doing very nicely thank you from sales In Thailand but there is nothing anyone can do about it except fly on other airlines!

Anyone who is holding a booking that has not yet been ticketed needs to complete the transaction by the 8th May 2008.

Note BA put up fuel surcharge for international legs by another 20 quid last week.

I heard some talking heads saying how the airline business was going to need massive price hikes or many carriers would go under.. 80 oil they can just about handle but 100 - 120 and the pricing needs to really change.

Did you read further down the list of posts in TV?

The OP found that Eva are now including taxes within the new price, so its not so bad as first stated.

I heard BA were raising the price of a long haul (over 9hr) flight by £13 from today.
Whatever, with the price of oil, fares are going one way only, and its not down.

In 2004, Delta Airlines decided to sell it's fuel hedging contracts. (brilliant)

Delta settled its fuel hedging contracts during the spring of 2004 for a gain of $82 million when fuel was only 35 a barrel. That move ended up costing the airline $700 million in extra fuel expenses for the year.

The guru's in Atlanta, said that their decision was based on their projection of "falling" fuel prices. (brilliant again)

I guess I'm lucky then. Paid 27500 baht from Norway to Phuket. Bit of a gamble on my part, but it paid off.

I saw an American CEO of an airline inerviewed and he agrees that air travel may become a "for the elite" form of travel just like it was in the 50s and 60s as airlines have no choice but to raise their prices when oil prices increase. I personally couldn't give a fiddler's feck as I pass on air travel expenses to the client...my clients are oil companies 55555.

Not when I posted - prefer to have an all inclusive price, these surcharges, taxes etc should be always included in the sticker price, blatant mis representation quoting some cheap price then loading it with a dozen add-ons.

If airline industry does consolidate into a few big players then would very likely see big prices hikes - pushed by the green lobby.

Until we get a serious economic contraction - oil prices are likely to remain strong and that without another ME calamity.

I agree Kev. The price printed should be the price we pay. I hate the added on extras, but you can see why some airlines do it. Makes them look cheaper for those unaware.

Our illustrious PM is apparently going to have meetings with OPEC to try and persuade them to increase oil production. At last, he appears to admit our fuel prices are rising rather high.55555. Will he succeed? Unlikely.

I have travelled with the twice last year and will ge going with them again in June. I find them to be very good for the price I pay with AVOD for every seat and only ever a slight delay 30 minutes tops. So no problems.

Wouldn't surprise me if that near 30% rise over two years is fuel surcharges and airport landing fee tax. I doubt the airline is making too much on such a competitive route.

Well I hope I'm doing the smart thing by buying my ticket before the supposed price hikes after May 9.

Maybe this has something to do with the fares going up! Looks like an expensive day.
