Flying to Bangkok from Belfast

Hi guys,

Am looking to get out to LOS in January / February for 2 weeks. Have set speculative dates of 27th Jan until 10th feb.
Have used EVA air on previous journeys, whom might I add were pretty excellent (stewardesses are ). The only downside in travelling from Belfast is that the return flight to London Heathrow (bad enough as it is) gets in at a time when there are no return flights to Belfast, thus meaning I had to book a hotel in London and stay over (a needless expense in my book).
Do any of you folks travel from Belfast / Ireland? What routes do you use?
Steve@thaib, what is the cheapest price you can get me out on those approx dates (god, this post sounds demanding, apologies btw)??

Many thanks for advice

Call the etihad call centre and you can do a codeshare flight with BMI from Belfast through LHR and as they land in the morning in LHR you can easily combine. Option is only available through calling the london office (or maybe travel agents) but not on the website.

Other option i used was going through dublin with etihad.

effectivelly 2 flights similar to flying to london and then to bkk direct

Cool China Air

I posted something before but here are the details.

China Air code share with Air Lingus out of their new Aldergrove hub.You fly Air Lingus to Amsterdam and connect with China Air to Bangkok.A friend used it last month.Approx cost 550 Pounds.

This cuts out Heathrow completely and Schipoll airport is probably one of the most user friendly in Europe.

Thanks for replies folks!

Contacted Etihad's London call centre and their fare from Belfast with BMI to London and onward to Bangkok was in the region of £800. Yikes! Bizarrely, their webpage offered £450 for the bangkok flights, with a predicted cost of £100 for the belfast/london shuttle. Approx £550 then
Direct flights from Dublin work out at £580 which would be nice in respect of 2 less plane journeys, but with travel to and from, might work out at £50 more, but probably more time saved overall.

Couldn't get hold of China airlines as of yet.
Has anyone flown with both and would there be a distinct difference in class between the two airlines?

Thanks again!
PPs, Steve@thaib, would you be able to provide a better price, alternative route than what I have seen so far?

You could always book a seperate flight with a low cost carrier.

Have you thought about going from Manchester or Birmingham .

I don't normally do this, but I've posted a couple of examples to show just how much the tax adds up to on these flights. I believe the passenger tax at Heathrow is something like £120.

The bottom line is that the best I am seeing on this system is £850.

As much as it sticks in my throat, I would suggest you take a look at Westeast. They are showing a fare with Thai for £745 which strikes me as very, very good.

They are also showing a Lufthansa flight for similar money as well, and I don't believe that one because we have Lufthansa on our system as well and they are showing nothing that even comes close to that (we don't have access to Thai).

Let us know how you get on.

Edit:

Leaving from Belfast City (rather than 'International') saves a bit for some reason, that China Eastern flight comes down to £815

Steve - It is China Air that is via Amsterdam that is the cheapest route.

Sorry, I'm sure you are right, I just noted the different airport and not the carrier.

I have found that although expensive the connection times when using BMI from Belfast city and Thai Airways heathrow to bangkok have been great. 3 hours wait maximum each way

I book through Cheap Worldwide Flights and cars, Discount Hotels, Bargain Holidays to Dubai, America, Australia and Thailand

Trailfinders in Belfast City centre can get you a good deal on the airlingus/china airlines route

The Airbus from Belfast to Dublin airport takes you 2 hours and drops you off at the terminal for 12-14 pound return and is easy connections from dublin. no need to fly that distance. In Holland I used to have a 2,5 hour drive to the airport

WTF - you only live 50 miles from Aldergrove with the new hub Air Lingus and onwards to AMs with China Air.

Why would you got to Glasgow????

If you can get to Manchester, you can do Emirates for £586 for the dates you want. Not sure about Belfast to Mcr, but have a look at cheapflights.co.uk, and see if you can match the times, they quote £64 return.

We flew Emirates last year and were so pleased we flew again this year with them. Stop at Dubai, and 1000 fags for £25, so you can recoup a bit of the costs

THE HOOF

THE HOOF

I wasn't that impressed with Emirates TBH Stuart. Very narrow seats, and all 4 flights late leaving and arriving. Food only so-so. Etihad is way better IMO.
