The Arab airlines are great Jonny. You should try Emirates or Qatar. They make BA look sick I can tell you. Also the prices are competetive.Doha is a great stopover.Modern but small, you can use English currency to buy goods although change will be in Qatar rials.

We travelled via Doha in Feb with Qatar and they are very good. The duty free is bloody cheap, fags cost £7 for 200 and they were Superkings Lamberts cost £6 need a bigger grip next time

I should think Britsh Airways should hopefully look after you well as long as you have informed them when booking for flight.
Mention it at the airport (london heathrow ?) There should be a BA information desk and you can check things out there.
As for Thailand , the best thing i can suggest is that you find out not only how to say ''no sugar'' etc.. but also how to say ''I am diabetic'' so that they understand why you don't want sugar as you make get some puzzled looks on their faces.

When you arrive in Patong give the Wattana clinic a visit , they are very helpful and i'm sure the doctors who speak good english will be able to teach you the phrases you need and more importantly , write down in thai script that you are diabetic so that you can show this to thai's .

As people with Diabete's can often carry a card that gives that info in case of an attack , they may be able to give you a card like that in Thai.

Have a good time ....take care

Link for Wattana clinic ...http://www.phuketdir.com/wattanaclinic/
You can email questions to them wattanaclinic@hotmail.com

Hi Surfergirl

I'm a diabetic as well, so don't worry too much about things in Thailand as far as sugar goes. If your into mixed drinks, nearly all bars stock diet coke, or as its known "Coke Lite", so just ask for that as your mixer.

Insulin travels well, when I was a type 1, I'm now very luckily a type 2, and travelled with insulin, I just used to carry it in my carry bags, no chance of it being lost or forgotten that way. Make sure that you bring sufficient insulin to cover your stay, as it is bloody expensive in Thailand, and not all types are readily available. Make sure your aware of what different types of insulin you can use.

If you do need to see a doctor whilst in Phuket and not an emergency, I suggest you go to Bangkok Phuket Hospital as they have a good understanding of diabetes there.

Just relax and have a great time in Thailand.

i dont how much it flys in europe, but i will keep saying, cathay pacific was by far the best airline i have ever flown. i have traveled in 1st calss many times, and aside form the comforts of the seats, they treat you like u are in 1st class everywhere on the plane. they also have your own tv in the seats so you can watch any movie you want and feed you tons of good food
