Accomodation for a couple months in Phuket?

I'm looking at taking a couple of months off work and hanging out at the beach with the new wife. Phuket seems to be a good central location within easy reach of lots of stuff to do. How would I go about finding an apartment or some other long-term accomodation in the area that's not too expensive, but has things like A/C, pool (nice, but optional), and kitchen that is more or less walking distance from the beach and necessary shopping places, but not necessarily overrun with BGs? If we are in the general area where they congregate she will be watching me like a hawk, even though I plan to not stray. What is a reasonable expectation of what to pay? I am curious on costs -- we can afford it, but I don't want to spend tooooo much, though I'm not cheaping out, either.

Also, if there are other areas I should consider looking in, suggestions always welcome. We went to Malaysia (KL and Perhentian) but Perhentian wouldn't be interesting enough longer-term, and I don't know what places somewhat like Phuket exist. BGs not any sort of requirement, she's 10 years younger than me and beautiful. Anywhere not too expensive and at the beach is worthy of consideration if there is a decent amount of stuff to do over time or within easy reach.

Thanks!

Also, I am looking January to March timeframe (roughly) -- is that still high season?

Shameless bump...

Are there any places in Phuket that do TOEFL prep? Not the TEFL, but the one they take to measure proficiency in English.
