'Walk-in' instead of booking ahead
Can anyone tell me if it's okay to just 'walk-in' instead of reserve a room ahead of time? will the room rate be different? I will be there around October for about 5 days. thanks!

October should be no problem whatsoever as it is low season , just don't try doing it from mid november through till the end of January and sometimes beyond as then it's high season.
As for prices refer to the part i wrote about ''low season''

As you will be really tired after your long trip, you can book a room for one night (by phone, email or Internet). Then feel free to look at the others hotels when you will be there. Yo can find many good advices about the hotels on this forum, so I am sure you will find your happiness for your first night at least ... then, up to you to see by yourself.

Walk Ins Good
That's what I did and landed at the PS Hotel. You can negotiate, though I didn't for the PS. It had the nicest rooms for 650Tb and a great staff. Really good food at their restaurant too at great prices. 60Tb Pad Thai, 30Tb watermelon shakes, 60Tb fried rice...yummy. OK, I think I'll go back only for the food....
YEAH RIGHT!

Sounds like a great deal. I just hope the rates won't change from what I saw via the Internet. Many thanks for all the info though.

One of the biggest complaints I get in the bar is that after a nights drinking, finding the BG of your dreams or beer-goggled-dreams, you get back to your hotel to get charged between 500Baht to 1500Baht BG-tax to take the EXTRA person to your room even though it was a double room....(3 LARGE Aussies paid that amount most nights recently and decided it was cheaper to get a 2nd room somewhere cheaper).
So I'd say low season don't book or if you do book don't pay for the whole trip in advance....
depending on if you're planning to be accompanied home of course !

Just walk in is the best in my opinion. I did it everytime i went to thailand.
If you want a good hotel in patong, quiet, clean, satellite tv, air-con, pool, of course girlfriendly, then go to Wang-nam-yen 2 in 50 pee road. Forget the price in internet. We stayed there two times and payed 500bath/day.
staff is friendly.
But need motobike or taxi to go to bangla road.
