Well we'll have to just imagine what they were advertising as we do with many things here trying to figure out what is going on! Having been here a while now I would guess it's a BJ/Pink Salon type place and if it is then most likely not foreigner friendly as 95% of these places don't want us.

1 hour documentary following 4 foreign hostesses that work out of the Gentlemans/Hostess clubs around Roponggi on dates with their Japanese customers. Don't let your Thai GF see this....might give her ideas!>>>

World's Most Expensive City for Expats

New rankings released by Merecer put Tokyo No.1 now knocking Moscow off the top spot>>>

There are a number of ways to measure the financial turbulence of the past year: the billions of dollars in public funds used to prop up banks; the cliff-drop in exports from any major economy; or the latest unemployment report.

Another way to judge the financial volatility of the past year is the ranking of the most expensive cities for expatriate employees to live.

The 10 most expensive cities for expatriates -- according to a cost of living survey released this week by Mercer International -- are:-

Most expensive ranking (last year)

1 Tokyo (2)

2 Osaka (11)

3 Moscow (1)

4 Geneva (8)

5 Hong Kong (6)

6 Zurich (9)

7 Copenhagen (7)

8 New York City (22)

9 Beijing (20)

10 Singapore (13)

Speaking of Tokyo, JAL is having some great deals now. Going in October, cost me less than 850.00 USD from JFK, I haven't seen that in awhile.

Anyone interested in Sumo good recent documentary here>>>

YouTube - Sumo Confidential - Japan

Sumo is in crisis. The grueling training and relentless discipline can be too much to take for young trainees. We follow the daily routine of two wrestlers and wonder if the ancient sport can survive.

When I went to Tokyo, I stayed in the Shinjuku Star hotel.

Very small room but cheap (<£50/night).

Two minutes from Shinjuku station.

Tokyo has such a good public transport system I could get to all other areas quite easily.

The Subway system is terrific. Very efficient, clean and cheap.

This is my "office" every weekend...pic 2 hours before first race. At the Tokyo Dome this is inside the JRA Off Track Betting building. The place is enormous...9 floors and 1000's of punters in every weekend>>>

Must have been a concert going on in the Dome itself yesterday afternoon as around lunchtime 1000's and 1000's of pretty girls were streaming over the bridge from the station. Didn't have my camera with me then :-(

Entrance to Takeshita Street opposite Harajuku Station. A must do walk if you're in Tokyo. Best time is weekends when all the "Harajuku" girls are there dressed up and there to be seen but this is 3pm on a tuesday afternoon. Weekends you'll only be able to shuffle along the street it is so crowded...and after 4pm weekdays when the kids have all finished school>>>

The Tokyo Tower probably the most photographed thing in Tokyo...or maybe one of the shrines. This must be high on the list too...the massive spider sculpture in Roppongi Hills and the Mori Tower>>>

Typical presentation of parts of the menus for many restaurants. They make the dishes then spray them with some sort of clear resin? to seal them then display them in front of the restaurant. Couple are clingfilmed in thsi case though. Good idea as you can see exactly what you are going to get even if you still don't know what it is in many cases. This is at the Rose and Crown...a British pub/restaurant chain>>>

Hey, I am going to Tokyo on Xmas Eve. Courtesy of a mega cheap $1 flight from New Zealand (grabaseat deal) is anyone out there at the moment ?

I am staying in a hostel in Asakusa, no idea what to do or where to go at the moment. Will be there for 5 nights over Xmas period. Funds are low so probably just do free stuff and temple visiting.

Thanks

WOW, you lucky bastard :-) I have never visited Tokyo during the holidays, hopefully you'll report back about your experience during Xmas. First thing you need to do is get a Suica & N'EX card at the airport, that way you can go and explore on the railways.

This is not the best place to have low funds...most expensive city in the world. At least the subway system isn't too pricey. If you have little money things you can do are the shrine in Asakusa is one of the most visited in Tokyo and worth a look.

Ueno is an interesting area with the street markets near the station and the Park is worth walking round where there are gardens/zoo/museums.

Shibuya is an eye opener for people watching with the worlds' busiest pedestrian crossing and a shopping area where a lot of the younger crowd go.

Shinjuku the world's biggest/busiest railway station is the station to go to to get to Kabichko nearby which is a "red light" area.

Harajuku and Ometesando is a must especially at the weekend.

Akihabara at night time...electronic city.

I'm off across the road later to see Avatar in 3D :-)

Typical Japanese Temple...this is at Kamakura about 100kms from Tokyo>>

Hostess Club in Roppongi>>>

Well I arrived about 2 hours ago, not much to report so far as bung from the 11hr flight from Auckland and having to get up at 5.45am to catch the flight. Sleep and then I will awake early on Xmas morning to check the place out. Will be weird that Tokyo will be just another normal working day.

I've got plenty of free stuff listed to do and there's people at the hostels with good info on things to do.

More to report soon.

Talking toilet in Tokyo>>>

Saw this demo state of the art toilet in the Caretta Building at Shiodome today. You can see on the arm about 20 options to direct a stream of water to clean your privates...set the temperature, direction and pressure of the water jets. Then other settings for temperature and strength of the air flow after water cleaning to dry your nether regions. Other controls are for the heating of the toilet seat itself. Unfortunately at the time of filming there were no pretty demonstration girls around to tell us what all the other buttons did!

haha I am loving Tokyo. Everything about it just works.

Vending machines that sell everything from hot coffee to cigarettes and alcohol. Toliets with heated seats, bum washers and everything else. There's **** all litter around the place. The subway/train system is so freakin simple it's a wonder the rest of the world hasn't used the same system. Everything is hi-tech yet there's so much tradition still in place.

Oh and the cute japanese girls with their knee high **** me boots, lush legs and short skirts are a massive turn on.

I have walked a good 2 marathons I reckon around town, up and down the subway systems etc. Very good exercise is Tokyo.

Shame I now have a chest infection..had it for a week but now being in Tokyo, smoking loads and the fact that they ramp the heat up in every shop and restaurant probably doesn't help. I hope I get over it by the end of my trip.

Off to Odaiba tomorrow and Akihabara for a spot of technology window shopping.

Tested one of those. Excellent. Except when I pushed the small red button and got a tampax shoved up my *ss.

Not been in one myself yet. Did they make you perform/sing or did they just do it? What did it cost? There are usually some of them out in the street handing out flyers...I'm sure they wouldn't mind you taking their picture.

I'll have to try one next trip. Just flown back to LOS on All Nippons' Panda plane>>>

See the guy on the right laughing at me taking the pic! I'd actually been behind them going up the escalator near the Mori Tower and had a wonderful view! My mate calls that particular escalator "Stairway To Heaven" because in the rush hour it's an endless stream of gorgeous women heading to/from the offices.

...and have you noticed yet how everything has a fixed price and everyone pays the same...and there is ZERO tipping...and the taxi drivers all wear a suit and tie and are mega polite and the taxi seats all have white lace covers...and...and...and....

Don't forget to have a wander around Roppongi at night time too...the African touts can be a bit persistent but you can have a bit of laugh with them and they are polite without being aggressive.

I've spent 5 of the last 12 months there and won't mind going back 2 or 3 times next year.

Unfortunately the maid cafe wasn't as revealing as that last picture. Some of the dressed up girls like photos and others hide as soon as the camera comes out.

Yes, the elevators are a great view indeed Just a shame it's winter here as I can believe Summer time will bring out even more flesh !!

Didn't manage to do Roppongi, have run out of money now. Back to NZ this afternoon.
