I was trawling around the internet looking for a place to stay when I came across this bargain basement hotel - The Amanpuri. It appears to be only USD 675 for one night in a standard room and 1200 USD for a superior sea view room. The hotel looks quite good although I note that at this low price breakfast is not included!

Seriously though, has anyone ever been there as I am wondering why people would pay so much in Patong.

not to b smart, but believe it or not, thailand does attract other people besides us who want to just hang out and go wild. it is actually becoming a big honeymoon destination and alort of people on their honeymoon will splurge.

Hi Mac,

I get some customers from the Amanpuri and it's considered the top place on Phuket.

Mick Jagger, Henry Kissinger, lots of royalty are some of the guests.

I went to a dinner there last week as some of my guests from Spain invited me to their Villa they made a great Paella. The villa was very stunning.
Along with the price you get fulltime 24hr staff as well.

A little out of my price range though.

It's not in Patong but in Surin beach 2 kilometers from my restaurant.

Well I guess we will all have to live in hope of those six numbers. Thanks for the info though and I like the idea of staying there and bringing back a BG... No compromise!

Trisara is the new place to go, setup by the ex GM of Amanpuri, bit out of town though, up by the airport. Upto $3960 per night...how many BGs is that then ? Was there having a nose a month back, nice views though !

Yes you are right Trisara is very nice as I've delieved food for a catering there. However the hotel has had a very soft opening and many areas are still under construction. It's defitnately not ready yet.
The GM Anthony Lark has hosted some of the most famous people at Amanpuri and he's a nice guy, shared a few drinks with him.
