I have taken a girl to a hotel as a registered guest a number of times and we both had to show proper ID.
I have even gone to a hotel where the girl had checked in long prior to my arrival and I was not allowed in without showing ID.
It is simply the right way to do things.
From what I know about Bill and his little operation I would doubt that he would allow the doorman to make such exceptions.

Why ?? its there to protect the customer.. If the customer doesnt want them to provide that protection why should they force the issue.

Hi all, newb here in the forum...
been reading the threads for the past week and have decided to stay here as well on my trip to Phuket come September. With all the raving reviews about this place, PLUS the price, there's not much to say no to. Would it be wise to book sooner or will it be ok to book closer to my trip to book around August? And I would like transportation from the airport to the hotel, and lessen the risk of being 'cheated' by calling my own ride, would the hotel or Bill be able to help me out with this?

Just drop them a line telling them when you need the taxi and it will be there.
It cost me 500 baht 2 years ago and was the same as i would have paid a taxi.

Perhaps I expressed that a bit strong or I missed the point of the post I replied to. Quote: <The security guy on at night is a good guy... if you tell him the girl is good (ie. not a bar girl you have just met) he won't take their ID card... he will ask you... you can trust her? Just make sure you have a good relationship with him... ;-) > I read that as if you have a good relationship with the night guard you can by-pass the rules.
Any establishment is free to make any set of rules they like and a customer can take that at face value.
By-passing the rules cannot possibly be the the best interest of management.
In the case of the poster that I replied to, maybe the rule is that the customer choose whether the guest shows ID or not; in which case there should be no need for a "special relationship" with anyone.
As to ones personal preference, mine is that I am taking a stranger to my room (even if she comes from my most trusted bar, MTB) and I take comfort when the hotel looks out for me.
I fully understand that real potential for trouble may be one-in-a-thousand, but I still like that level of security.

Alternatively, you could get a Meter Taxi, as soon as you step outside the airport, turn to your right, ignore the touts and walk to the end of the concourse. There will be a booth, you cant miss it. Go up to the booth and order a taxi. You'll be waiting about 5 minutes but its B450 to Patong.
Or if you're lazy like me, you could just book the taxi when the room .

appreciate the info, with all the talk about how tuk tuk and other services can be overly expensive, now I know where to head straight to if need be!
And most likely, as you've said it, best to leave it to the hotel and all I would have to do is look for my Name tag held by a Thai dude

I merely meant that if you have a good relationship with him then he trusts you when you say that you are bringing back say a long term girlfriend... I brought back a girl I had known many years... I still said take her ID card as I felt uncomtoftable not doing so... but all I am trying to say is that he will give you some discretion if you are bringing someone back you know very well... hope that clears it up...

the price for it is ok.
well, a taxi or something else at the airport would be cheaper (i think so),
but i like it when there's someone waiting for me outside the airport with a sign and my name on it

Same same me. Also a good feeling knowing that you are going to the hotel you booked and not the one the taxi driver gets a commission from.

I find myself gravitating more and more towards Western-owned and managed businesses. Deal with foreign businesses and you know that if there is a problem there's a foreigner you can speak with. Down in Pattaya, I always stay at a hotel owned and run by a North American. In Phuket I stay at Summer Breeze Hotel, American owned.

This weeks comments are alas, rather sobering.

Sobering, depressing and thought provoking.
Makes you wanna bang heads together in the hope of knocking some sense into them.

When i had to change hotels at 7am i went into a hotel on Sansabai which had a sign saying "room for 400 baht" prominent at the front entrance.
I went in and asked the Thai guy behind reception how much a room was..he replied 500 baht!!!!
I just burst out laughing and walked out shaking my head at that..

Hotel
When I was in Patong, February, this year, I looked in on Summer Breeze, just to compare.
Don't understand the adoration, of the place. The room I was shown, was dark, dismal and small. I was with my TGF and even she did not like it.
Do yourself a favour and have a look at The Nice Hotel, off Sawatdirak Road. All rooms have windows, are bright, spotless and the staff are great. Five minute walk to beach, 7-8 mins. to Bangla. No pool, but neither has Summer Breeze.
I stayed there, for two weeks, in June (last month).I was picked up at airport/ returned free of charge. What else could they have done! Brilliant!

Maybe if you had stayed a bit longer you have started to realise why so many bm's love the place.
Many people who stay there trip after trip, year after year, i am sure could afford some top hotels around Patong. The Summer Breeze, however, has things that other hotels can not compare to; personal service, ambiance, a genuine friendly welcome at every turn, a meeting point and much more....
You really were missing out by not giving it a try...

agree with danboy on that...i stayed in a summersuite room spot on very clean but what makes the place is the service...Kat,Ying and the girls are the best, I have stayed in hotels all over the world and have never been met by a bigger smile than Kat gave me every time she saw me, you are very wrong about the place imho..best in Patong

I recently stayed at the Summer Breeze in late June...the staff was great... my room was a summer suite which all but blocked out any noise from the surrrounding area.. there was a window that allowed sunshine into the room if i did not draw the shades...I visited a friend at a different hotel and found that while cheaper, his hotel lacked the friendly atmosphere,, at no time did we hang out in the lobby of his hotel.. while at the S-Breeze i spent time in the lobby downstairs ..surfed the net, enjoyed the bar and made a few friends... when i initially saw the hotel I thought that i was a victim of false advertising..within one day I felt that I had made the best choice for my whole trip...it is a great place to stay...
