Babies on flights
My next trip i shall have my nine month old daugter with me so that the grandparents can see and make a fuss of.
But it will be the first time i have flown with a baby.
so this may sound like a daft question but is the any thing else i should be aware of ?
I.e not make up to much baby formula for the flight as this would be a security issue.

no real issues m8, but take kalpol as its likely the baby will get sore ears and lots of crying. I think you can take as much formula as you like
Your gonna be hated by most on the plane unless she sleep like an angel

Make sure you put enough air holes in the box , also a blanket and some water as the cargo hold can get very cold !!!!

You are allowed to carry enough baby food and formula thru security as you require for the trip. If the formula is pre-made then you will have to drink a little bit of it in front of Security. My favourite part of the job
Personally I think there should be an age limit for children on planes... say 18 years old

May be try carrying the baby to where the crew cabin is? They might play with the baby and comfort the baby.

5555 More likely they'll tell you where to go!
You're only allowed to take what's reasonable for the flight and may be asked to taste the food, etc so if you have sealed stuff you may want to take a container to decant into (seen lots of parents arguing about this).
Rules are here - Air travel hand baggage rules : Directgov - Travel and transport

book early, and try and reserve a basinet (cot thing that attaches to the bulkhead). Pack lots of baby wipes, nappies, a change of clothes or two, etc. Pick a kiddie friendly airline like SIA and not one that's not, BA : - e.g. SIA will let parents eat at different times if one is dealing with a baby.
Remember your stroller will be checked in at the gate, so don't try and load it up, cos you will only have to carry and stow all that gear on board.
Make sure you have plenty of juices/water as we all get dehydrated on planes.

I read a flight attendants gripe forum some time ago.
Parents dropping bubs off unannounced for child minding rated highly
Some people should stick to breeding fish.. (guppies?)
the gripe forum may have been linked from this site, mmmmaybe.

Seriously ETV ....
Have a bottle of water or milk for the baby to drink handy during take off and landing as the baby doesnt know to swallow to equalise the air pressure - thats why they often cry on ascent and descent.
If you can use Thai Airways as TG staff are wired to love babies and will take good care of you. If you havnt already get the front seat pre-assigned so the baby cot/bassinet is available for your baby to sleep in.

Good advise. Have flow three times with our baby. Nightplane with babycot is the way to go. Book in advance, (you also get som of the best seats on economy.) The other grat advise is breastfeeding, works to calm the baby down , and aginst cabin pressure. Nothing better on takeoff and landing. Nose spray given 30 min before take of and landing if the baby got a cold (reduses risk of barotraume to the ears).
Full set of clothes for change. Food, snack, water, milk. Dipers (you will probebly get one from the fligt atendense.
No negative expiriences yet, but friends told me that their baby craied for two ours on takeoff, gets very unpleasent when people start giving negative feedback.

To be honest I do not like babies on a plane on my last trip i was up at 3am as i had to go to work before I flew out of heathrow at 2130hrs.
I thought excellent plenty of sleep on the plane but NOOOOOOOOOOOO
There were 3 babies all under a year old and every time I was just about to dose off when one of them would cry. I was well fcuk when I got off the plane. No sleep whats so ever.
Not happy at all .
Personally you shouldn't take the really young on to a long disance flight.

I dont mind kids on a flight as long as they are all kept in the same area of the plane and Im not near it!!!
As long as they are not too close, I have no problem sleeping as I always carry earplugs and a face mask on long haul flights!

Try Eva
ETV,
not sure where your flying from/to but Eva Air Evergreen Class is a good option for a couple with an under 2 year old cos you get two larger than normal seats by the window with basinet (it's a 2-3-2 formation)

While I'm not a great fan of people travelling with babies, it must be done sometimes. Eric, take the good advice from the fellow BM's and do as much as you can to make it a comfortable trip for you and your family. If you do that it will be a comfortable trip for your surrounding passengers as well. Its not so much the babies that are the problems its the 2-5 year olds who need a good dose of "grizzle Medicine" applied liberaly to their behinds.

noise cancelling headphones
I find that when I watch movies or just wanting to sleep... I use my noise cancelling headphones. Cuts allot of noise out, and maybe good to cut the baby cries as well.

A friend whom I used to fly with would always summon a flight attendant, at the first sound of a baby crying.
He'd then say to her (much to her shock and horror)... "Pinch that child's head off! It'll grow a new one, right?" 5555

That baby cry must be a frequency that my noise canceling headphones will not cancel they do great at engine noise but baby cry not a chance. I wonder if anyone makes a set that are adjustable (frequency range)?
If you can't sleep You can always hit on the mom seems they always travel alone.........and you know she puts out.
