Hall of the Slain

Im new to the board so invariably my first post was going to be about BG's or accomodation.

I have read alot of the posts here and studied a fair bit for my first trip to LOS. I have found some very good priced accom. (1,100 baht) at a place called Valhalla (new name V-Plaza). Seems just the place for a guy like me, I was wondering if anybody has stayed there before, and could offer thier opinion. I am aware of the other places promoted by BM's just havent heard too much about this one.

Thanks.

I am not like dude

Oh God, please do not say that.

If neone on this board asumes that I am anything like YOU I'll never get any helpful info. I"m am in need of a long overdue holiday, and seeking info from a friendly community.

I AM NOT coming on here to tell everyone how I intend to rip BG's in half with my massive member, like you mister 9 inch. I might be young but Im not a c*cknuckle.

OK now that that is out of the road, neone care to reply to my original post.

i stayed at v-plaza last september.good laugh to stay there altho dont expect much sleep.gets very loud, pool parties going on til all times, and i mean 10-11 in morning sometimes(at least whilst i was there).
jan who runs it is a total alcoholic but a good laugh he will have you drinking from the moment he wakes up.the place does seem a bit dirty room wise, but i cant fault the place,i had a great time there.they supply condoms, porn etc and have regular bbq and pool parties with bar girls and they got the pool and steam room as well.

When are you going mate?If it's around Christmas/New Year then I think your choices will be limited.
The Expat is a good Hotel(reasonable cost, not 5-star,but guest friendly) close to Bangla, and to Valhalla. But your best bet would be to do a search on this forum for "hotel" and see what comes back.
Welcome to the board too!!
Cheers,
Bonnetti

I am going 30th Jan '05 to 10th Jan '05, I am aware that this is peak season, so the 1,100 per nite seemed a great deal. I have read alot of the posts but, to be truthful Ive read so much that useful info has been lost in favour of some troll posts & debates.

lol

Sorry that was 30th Jan '05 to 10th Feb '05. During this time would it be possible to walk-in? or is it too busy? Is the walk-in rate alot cheaper than booking in advance?

My three options are V-plaza, stoney monday and c & n hotel.

Normally you can walk in anywhere but you're going at the very busiest time of year, so you really should sort something before you go. As for Valhalla, I really don't like taking business away from people and, as r3aps says, the manager is a very nice guy. And I'm not a fussy bastard either - but I'm afraid I found the place just too manky and dirty with a really musty smell. The pillows smelt of someone else's sweat. I checked out after a couple of days.

Never stayed there

but had a look around a while back out of curiosity and wasn't satisfied, booked at vech guesthouse this xmas and have heard from BM's that it's a ok place. Will post a review of that place on my hotel review forum once I've visited it. It certainly is cheap, 600baht this time of year is a bargain.
All depends on what facilities you expect from your accomodation, have a look around and see if you can find a place to your liking then do a search here.
I myself plan on staying at vech, if that is not to my liking I'll try walk in at a cpl places to see what can be done. Usually you can get a far better price that way but will not bank on getting anything as it is high season.

Disregard my previous post, I found the thread. Great search function on the board.

Thank you all for your help, this board and its BM's are going to ensure I have a memorable holiday.

If anybody is going to be there during the same time as me, give me a yell and we'll have a beer.

Toss up

OK so I now have two choices, help me!:

Travel 30th Jan '05 to Feb 9th '05 (then 3 nights in bkk)

Stoney Monday: 1350baht p/night (incl 10% bm discount) Pros: free airport pickup cause I'm staying 10 nights; emails responses from the owner/director; he's an Aussie; nicer looking rooms(blissful). Cons: Bit far from the action, double price of alternitive; 50% deposit (this last one is not so bad, I like know it is confirmed).

Vech guesthouse: 700 p/night. Pros: right in the middle of the action; best price this time of year Cons: unsure of the quality of the beds/rooms; not sure about a saftey box; dont want a deposit; no free transfer.

So what do you guys think, is it worth the extra AUD220?
I am on a budget but as everyone knows your environment affects your enjoyment/impression of a place and its people.

Also booked Nana hotel for final 3 nights before departure, 1100baht + VAT. any comment on this, could I get a better deal at another close hotel?

Sorry for the long post, its two months away and Im already excited! I wanna get all this booking out of the road so that I can get back to doing some work.

My Buddy just booked the Honey Hotel in BKK for 900/night. Very nice place. Super nice staff. I think better than Nana, altho it is about halfway up Sukhumvit from Nana to Soi Cowboy(around Soi 17?) He is a a guy who loves Bangkok and knows the best value for the Baht!

Mate, if you can afford it, I'd spend the extra. Stoney has had a lot of rave reviews on this forum and it makes any holiday that much more pleasant if you're staying at a really nice place. I must admit I don't know Vech and it might be OK. But Stoney sounds really great. It's a little farther away from the action/mayhem. But on the odd days when you need to take a breather and spend some quiet time, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Getting around isn't too difficult anyway. I'd say go for Stoney!
