Question Mid-Range Longer Term Accomodation?

I知 looking at visiting Phuket for a couple of months and trying to find some longer-term accommodation. I see a lot of basic apartments for 12-15k/month and it seems to jump straight to luxury villas for 12-15k and more a day.

I知 looking for something more than a basic hotel room. A kitchen, small living room type area, and some basic furnishings are really what I want. I知 not looking to wander around getting electricity turned on, TV service, or buying / renting furniture / linens / kitchen stuff. Things like a small balcony, pool, and internet access nice but we could manage without. Location is important, and I would like to be within walking distance of the beach and your various essential stores and such. I知 looking for Kata or Karon areas. Price is less a factor, but I知 wanting to keep something like this under 40K/month-ish. Guest friendly not an issue, since it痴 an extended honeymoon. Does such a beast exist, or am I just managing to look in all the wrong places?

The other half of the question is this: assuming a two month term starting in mid-February, would it be possible to come in and find something then, or will everything most likely be booked up? Spending a week in a hotel while looking is no problem. I壇 just rather be able to see the place first if possible.
My timing is flexible, and may go longer depending on how badly I need to get back to earning...

Hey Zokok, good to see you back on the forum again. I got posted to Najaf since the last time we spoke. Looks like you are going to be in Phuket the same time I am. I am arriving 2/12 and staying for about a month. If you are interested in going out for a beer with my fiance and I (we are getting engaged while I am there), give me a shout on here before you go.

Check out the "House for Rent?" thread in here. I was basically asking the same question, then kind of got off into more the high end villas, but there are quite a few links on there that the fellow BMs posted for me regarding rentals, check it out and see if there is anything you like.

Later,
Tom

I mostly lurk -- I think I lack character in comparison to a lot of these folks. Will get in touch around then, that sounds good. Will PM my email. I usually pick up a SIM card for the phone when I get local, but not sure if I still have Thailand one.

I looked at the links, but I see two very different sides -- cheap and affordable, but probably have less than I am looking for, and then straight to ridiculously expensive. A villa for $300 a day is way too far on the wrong end for me. I know there is at least some kind of middle ground, just not sure how to find it. This would be a lot easier if I could check them out first, but I am not sure if that means nothing will be left.

That was one I actually recall seeing just from the name. Gave enough info for me to be comfortable with, though it's slightly out of what I wanted to pay. Maybe I just need to reset my cost expectations is all...but good gawd you really have to pay attention to keep the several hundred / several thousand $$ a day ones off the screen!

try and call and bargain with them.. I find posted rates on websites are always loads higher than walk in and haggle rates..

I hadn't though of that. Too much of the western "price is the price" mode. Is there a % you think might be a reasonable price instead?

Not really a % just market rates and how busy they are.. Also they are new(ish) having been built in the last year so may not have repeat custom built up yet..

I dont think the low season 35 - 45 prices woud be out of line..

They seem a bit slow to respond to enquiries to their web form, so I guess that's something to try on a phone call then...thx for info!

I'd really rather see in person what I'm dealing with, but don't want to find nothing is available come Feb, either...
