Red face Thanks

Thanks for the information. It's a relief to know but I feel pretty terrible about going there for holiday after what has happened. Hope things will be better by the 2nd week of January.

P.S. I think you meant east of Rat-u-thit. West is the beach area.

Hi, this is my first post. Although the timing of this request is wrong but I have bought flight tickets to Phuket on 22nd Feb 2005. Does anyone have any idea whether the situation will return to near normal? How r the BGs coping with life now that the situation is chaotic?

The life is already back to near normal here, people work hard to renovate, clean-up and so on. The beachroad will need some time to be back in business and still look like a warzone.

Many BGs went home but many girls are still here and others will be back when they know it is safe.

Today all Bangla get electricity back and I guess all bars on the sois will be open tonight. Restaurants around Patong which was not affected is also running as normal.

Unhappy

Too bad about my favorite hotel with many memories and great rooms...the Seaview Patong. I can't believe that there is 100% damage, it was at the south end of the beach road right before the big ramp, can anyone get a picture of the place now for me? Thanks

Banthai Resort real status?

Banthai resort is listed on both of the "hotel-status" websites, but on one as opening January 3rd and on the other it says 3/2005 (assuming that means March 2005). Does anyone have any more detailed info about the Banthai, and which date for opening is correct? Are they still operating with the guests that was there or are they completely closed down at the moment?

ANy info would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Patong Villa?

I have been looking for any information on the Patong Villa Hotel. Was there any damage or injuries to employees or guests?

My thoughts & prayers go out to all of the victims and their families.

Have read elsewhere that Patong Villa Hotel did not suffer any injuries to staff or guests. There is a little damage and the pool area is a mess but should be up and running again by end of Jan.All the shops in the side street were wiped out.

GentleViking, Re - the Banthai. I have stayed there a few times before and loved it but would never stay there again. I was staying there at the time of the tsunami and management response was appalling. A man (who was identified by other staff as the manager George Tan) was running around creating panic, screaming at guests to get out of their rooms and forcing them off the property into the street, even those on the high floors who were much safer in their rooms than on the street. To top it off, we later saw this same man, the day of the tsunami, Sunday 26th, in the safety of Phuket Town, drinking and then he got up on stage with the band singing La Bamba!! One would think the manager of a hotel in this situation would have better things to do, like maybe checking up on the safety of his staff and guests or perhaps even helping guests find alternative accommodation. Re the hotel - as far as I know only the ground floor was damaged... my friends staying on the ground floor had waist high water in their rooms. To sum up - the hotel itself is great, the staff wonderful, but the management disgraceful. I don't know if anyone was seriously injured, but guests/staff out the front for breakfast at the time would have to be lucky and/or fast runners to get to the stairs to escape unharmed. Definitely no help afterwards from manager George Tan, too busy drinking and singing La Bamba. Other lower level staff were great, doing whatever they could to help.

I e-mailed the Patong Villa as i stayed there earlier this year.

I had reply to say the hotel had minor damage and all the staff are safe.

Sorry to hear about this hotel going down. Although I am partial to Kamala now, I spent part of some really wonderful days (and nights) with a wonderful friend there for many years. I saw the pictures on the net, but had hoped it was a different Seaview.
