I went there in December 2002. It is a great city but not very westener friendly. You would need to visit with a Thai person as english is nearly non existant.

The people will stop and watch you eat or come out just to look at you. White people arre nearly as big an attraction as the national park there.

There is only one nice hotel there. It is a 5 star place that was built a few years ago as the King was coming to visit. Bike hire was not available and car hire was only from another city and you have to pay delivery.

Other than the park there is really not a lot to see. I night would be plenty there ... me I would not bother.

Hope this helps.

Cheers from another Aussie

Have seen some photos yesterday. They have a big AIDS refuge in a wat, with an exhitibition of mumified bodies, a teaching lesson for thai school classes who are coming to here, to learn about the dangers of AIDS.
