Cathay Pacific USA - BKK Special
Right now Cathay prices are starting at $563, for me it will cost $650 from JFK including taxes. Thought I would mention it for anyone looking. It needs to be booked by Jan 31, and the fare is good through April 15.

Stoppover in Hong Kong
Just out of curiosity, how long is the stopover in Hong Kong?

When I flew with them last time I spent a few days in Hong Kong. They are also offering that free stopover this time as well, even used the time to travel to Beijing
However on my way back I had a 2 hour stopover in HK. I like that airport, and I prefer to have some time to buy some candy and stuff.

Stopover
A few hours isn't bad, but one time some travel agent girl was trying to sell me a ticket with a 10 hour stopover in Hong Kong.

10 hours? thats ridiculous.
I just booked my flight, it has a 90 minute stopover in HK, however the flight back goes through Vancouver before it gets to NY, not exactly ideal. It adds a few hours to the flight, but since it is on the way back, I don't care much.
Besides, for $650 I can't complain.

In Belgium we had this special offer allready in November. I have booked
flights with Cathay Pacific for March 2005 leaving from Amsterdam. I will have to wait for 1h15minutes going to BKK and 4H15 coming back. Does Cathay Pacific offer good services on board?
For those from the Netherlands and Belgium: check this site : http://www.bmair.nl they offer quite good deals

I really liked the food on my last few flights with them. That combined with the price is good enough reason for me to fly with them.

Deal of the Month
Shockingly enough they turned the special into the Deal of the Month for Feb.
February Deal of the Month - Bangkok
Fly to Bangkok starting from just $563*
Its the same deal where travel must be completed by April 15, so its not good for a Songkran holiday trip.
$650 including taxes and fees to fly from JFK here on the east coast of the US is a good deal. No frequent flyer miles for this though.

Specials
I flew with Cathay 3 years ago and was very satisfied. Many of Cathay's specials don't earn any frequent flyer miles though. Im leaving in July and Cathay's specials are gone till next year.

After May I probably will not be flying Cathay again as I read that Thai is running direct flights from JFK to BKK. I'll pay a little extra for less time flying, it really kills my back, so every minute counts to me.

I'm starting my trip (JFK-BKK) on April 11, and returning near the end of April, so I cannot use the Deal of the Month.
However, the price I got from Cathay for my dates was $824 after taxes, which is still way less than all the other carriers for April flights, PLUS I earn FF Miles! I booked it.
Maybe since my dates fall within part of the Deal's discounted timeframe, the price is still cheap? Good for me, though!

Jfk To Bkk
We just finished booking, but we would not take the jfk route as they don't fly any 747's from jfk, this is a personal choice for me as I prefer to fly the 47's on those long flights...but hey that's just me.
But it is a great deal....

Booked through Airline Network.
You need to be a little flexible on your dates. If you don't find the price you want for your prefered dates, try different dates till you get the best deal.
Also it changes very quick, so when you find what you want, book it asap.
Also, if you cannot find a suitable deal one day, try again the next as it changes day to day. ie. a particular fkight Monday can be quoted @ £1000.00, next day it may come up for £430.00.
Good luck.

I had to book during the week the school hols start and the cost is huge. Best I could get anywhere was £430 LHR BKK return with stop in Dubai on Gulf Air.Like alibaba says if you can be flixible you can save a fortune.Any flights during school holidays are outrageously priced

Does anyone have any experience of using www.priceline.com (for US) or www.priceline.co.uk (for Europe) ??
Apparently you can "bid" for seats but I have never come across anyone who has actually bought tickets this way. For example if the current price is £430 (as per Dawsey's comment) and you bid £300 for the same ticket and then wait to see if you are successful or not.
Cheers

ive used pricleine.com for hotels over 30 times and have been extremely happy. even used it for rooms in bkk on sukhumwit. with the hotels, you pick a star, 5-star,4-star, etc, then the area youd like to stya, then the price, so you dont know what hotel but they are all major hotels and nice. ive done it for flights in the us and it is good but only if your flexible becuase you can only pick the day and how many stopovers youd like. so you could say, for example, you want feb 10, then they will book you on a flight and then tell you what time, you have no control of that. also, you cant cancel it, your credit card is charged immediately

Mate,
try ebookers.com - I checked this morning and you could still get a return flight to BKK for £385 (Thai Intl - tax incl.).
I have used priceline.co.uk but not in the last 2-3 years - it's pretty good however one of the downsides is that you can't choose the airline. Therefore if they book you on Aeroflot for example (just to name a dodgy airline) you can't do anything about it.... apart from praying that is

If you are looking to book now for Songkran, I would get a quote from
www.airlinenetwork.co.uk
www.westeasttravel.com
www.ebookers.co.uk
www.dialaflight.com
at least you can choose your airline and price is variable if you are flexible with your dates.Even though its a usually busy time,I would expect plenty of hotel choice still.
