I usually ask hotel to clear out mini bar if staying for a few days.

Any one know if this is acceptable practice in Thailand ?

Why? I assume it is to remove temptation for the BG or for yourself?

Not sure if many people would ask for this, however I can't imagine it would be too much of an issue.

Cool

I have never had any problems although have heard some stories of drinks going missing and people being charged. I can't help feeling though that sometimes it's possible to come back to the room well oiled and forget that you've taken a drink.

The best idea I have come across was at the Holiday Inn in Patong, where they supply the fridge and you fill it. They also had a couple of shops on site and the prices were not that much more expensive than outside. I just kept a supply of cold fizzy drinks and water, for those "hazy" mornings !!

Yep - it's happened to me - it was only a packet of cashew nuts, but I was really annoyed as I tend to throw money around to 'aid' the economy and wouldn't have missed a few baht - it was getting ripped that pissed me off!

I tried to argue the point for a few minutes then, thought sod-it!!!
I'm not going to win and I'm not going to let this spoil things, so I paid the money and walked away.

My friends GF once emptied all the small bottles in the minibar. So he had to go out and refill them.

Checking out of Patong Villa last year, I had just paid a bill of around 34000baht for 2 rooms for 10days when reception sent someone to check the minibar in each room. I was charged another 70baht for a small bottle of water my daughter had drunk. I know we had to pay for drinks used but it seemed so petty and Patong Villa went down a little in my eyes.I'm not staying there this trip and I will put all the minibar stuff in a cupboard and buy my own from 7-eleven.

Patong Villa....I had a similar experience there in 1997,We were told we could clear out the mini-bar during our stay (7 weeks) We was shocked when we checked out and found that we was beeing billed of the drinks & snack we were okayed by the manager to clear out and put in the store room in the resturant
I loved the hotel, both for the location and swimming pool, but the then manager/boss was a real sneaky little ****,not popular by either empoyes or customers !!!
