Phuket Air feedback

Hi guys,

Can anybody give me some info on Phuket Air? I have never flown with them but they are doing cheap flights out of Gatwick and some friends have booked to travel with them in a couple of weeks. They have now seen some bad reports on them and are a bit nervous.

Are Phuket Air as bad as their press makes them out to be?

Phuket Air

I travelled with them when they first started the service.
I had problems out & return. I turned up at check in & they had no record of my booking. Same with 40, yes 40 other passengers. In Thailand i couldn't get a firm commitment from them whether i had a seat for the return or not, so when i turned up to check in for the return, i still didn't know if i would get on the plane. Luckily i did.
The flight, service, food etc. was good but the planes are old.
Two friends of mine used them in January and the flight out was delayed 24 hours. Return flight delayed 12 hours.
Also, usually advertised as BKK non stop. What the agents fail to tell you is that there is a 1 hour re-fueling stop in Dubai on the return leg where your not allowed of the plane. I don't know if it's the same now. Maybe the've got their act together.
Anyway, have a good trip & good luck.

phuket air, never again.

i was delayed for 22 hours on christmas eve and i was put up in the hilton for the night.

nobody there to tell us what was happening and by the time we were boarding next day, the passangers for the next days flight were arriving ,all trying to get on board as well. imagine having to sit at gatwick for the full christmas day.

coming home, they could not get the door to close on the tarmac, causing a delay of 1.40 hours and then the refueling stop in dubai took another 1.30 hours.

the plane is a big old airbus and not very reliable. i think they only have two or three planes doing this route and if one has a problem, you will have no chance of arriving on time. this is a worry for people like me, having to catch an onward flight to dublin.

i would never use them internationaly again, but on internal domestic flights in thailand, they are fine and have plenty of back up planes.

phuket air - reduced services

read recently that they have cut services from LGW due to low occupancy rates on board even though its only for a short period.

A/c are ex-KLM B-747's and although obviously old are in reasonable condition. Also as they operate out of the UK the Civil Aviation Authority would not issue operators licence if Phuket Air did not come up to UK safety and operating standards.

I've flown with them every time to BKK/HKT and yes there were delays but at the end of the day you get what you pay for!

Check out www.airlinequality.com then go to airlines, then passengers opinions and that will give opinions on majority of airlines.

The service sounds very dodgey but at that price I would still be willing to fly with them.

You get what you pay for and for that price I think it is a great deal.

However, I have only used Phuket Air for domestic flights and it worked fine for me and I have no complaints at all.

I booked with Phuket Air through a travel agent, and only after doing some research on them after, such as a 2 hour re fuelling stop somewhere in the mid east on return journey on the way back, I complained. I was not told of this when I booked and had a case for a refund which I got.I then booked with a proper airline but could not get a flight until New years eve and ended up getting a refund for that as well (Tsunami).Yes I missed my holiday was going to travel with Malaysia but they stopped all flights into phuket for a few days.

Try Airlinequality.com (passenger opinions) and you will be scared of what you read ie Plane took off from Bkk recently and had to land with a engine fire
almost immediately.

Cheap yes but is it worth the risk ,I dont think so

Yes, someone posted the link and I took a look. It seems to me that a bargain is a bargain for a reason.

For me, it is BA/Qantas every time, I am wary of low cost carriers because I experienced the Brittannia flights back in '97; never again.

My friends are committed though, and good luck to anyone who is travelling long haul for pennies; you get what you pay for....

Thanks for the info; appreciated. I am 'oop north' so tend to fly BA if poss. The Phuket Air deal sounds very much like the Brittania Flights from '97/98 and an absolute bargain. I can't get anywhere near the 300.00 mark from Manchester.

I guess they can't last flying half empty aircraft, so enjoy it while you can.

Seems it lasted for just over 1 month.

From today onwards Phuket Air are no longer allowed to fly from The Netherlands. A pilot of Phuket Air was asked by the airport authorities to show his medical documents, which he did not have. Because of this all airplanes are grounded as from yesterday untill further notice.

At the moment 165 people are stuck in Bangkok. An alternative have not been found for them yet.

Looking on the bright side though ..... there are worse places to be stuck.

very true whazzzup

this is a quote from the aviation safety website.
01 MAY 2005 Landing rights of Phuket Air suspended in the Netherlands over safety issues
The landing rights of Phuket Air have been suspended in the Netherlands. The decision has been taken as a result of inspections of the airline by the Dutch Transport and Water Management Inspectorate at Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport. An April 30 inspection found that a pilot of Flight 620 to Bangkok did not have a valid medical certificate. (ANP)

Surely only a matter of time before Phuket Air go under, unless the Thai government step in.And I can't see that happening. With what's been said here,I don't think it will be a big loss to the airline industry.

For an extra 200 pounds i would fly thai anyday from the Uk.
Phuket air is just too dangerous now and it is surely only a matter of time before a wing or an engine falls off into my hotel swimming pool whilst on its way back to Europe

Only one problem, they are the only one who has a flight between Phuket and Hat Yai, which I used to use.

Thai Airways had that route before but cancelled the route one year ago.

So what I am going to do?

Phuket Air have pulled the plug on UK flights from(I think) April. My friends had a good trip, but the following week a flight was grounded in the middle east after passengers threatened to storm the flight deck!

They look like an accident waiting to happen. It may be inconvenient, them being the only carrier flying to Hat Yai, but I reckon that being in a plane crash would be a sight more inconvenient.

There are other carriers flying around which I would be more concerned about. There is obviously more behind this story then what is being released, authorities dont revoke an airlines authority to land in a country, simply because a crew member has forgotten to carry their paperwork.

The Thai government wouldnt step in with mr TH as a boss, unless im out of touch and he gave all his shares back to Thai airways and doesnt care who the competition is.
If i am pls inform me ..........
