Cheap Hotels???
Hey,
A few people I know went Bangkok for a month last year, they tell me hotels and beach huts are as little as 60BHT to 150BHT a night, in the places they paid??? Is this true??? I only ask because me n my mate are goin on 20th June for 7 weeks before we got to Aussie for 4 weeks. If it is true, anyone recommend the cheap budget type hotels and there prices?!?
Cheers
Rick

In Bangkok you can get cheap accomodation in Khaosan Road guest houses never stayed there but there is plenty of backpacker accomodation I assume you are going to Samui which is probably around 300bht a night for cheap guest house.
For 60 bht I think you'll be sleeping on the beach, 300 bht is about minimum you'll pay for a room maybe there is cheaper I don't know, but you get what you pay for.

Two Chefs is an excellent place - good food and very nice atmosphere. Although, if you're into Patong nitelife above all else it's about 20/15mins tuk-tuk/cab 300-500 bhat from town. It's well established and Kata Beach is a nice place to unwind. Altough getting one to many big resorts IMHO. Also Mee Bar (Mk 2) has now opened and is a good social hang-out to meet the locals and relax. Also Mellow Bar in Kata Centre (Mark's the owner) is also worth a visit. As well as Lek's for any divers (watery type).

June is low season but July august can pick up a small spike in summer chool holiday family vacationers (I think Samui may feel this more than Patong)... 600 baht and under is doable even in Patong during low season if you look and try hard..
Samui is getting more and more expensive in my experience.. My mate on a nice place in the outskirts of Lamai, not on the beach but has a pool and you will rent bikes anyway if you want to get about.. I think he does 200 baht fan and 350 or 400 baht AC room but with a small surcharge for everything extra (like 50 baht for a daily DVD player or to turn on sat Tv.. xxx amount of baht for shower heaters etc) last year and high season he did not bother with any of this and it was simply 400 - 600 fan rooms and 800 ish AC rooms (high season) but he gets lots of long stayers and semi residents trying to haggle him.. I think he would be one of the cheapest options for nice quality hotel rooms I know of on Samui...
Kho Phan Gan had nice beach bungalows in the 300 - 350 range outside of FMP dates..
