Vighit Resort
Hi all
The countdown is on...
We arive on April 5th
Does anyone know the Vighit Resort on chalong bay?
My wife and I like a quiet place but within reach of the "wild side"
if I can talk her into a walk on the wild side
We will be in LOS for nine days and plan to rent motor bikes.
Is it practical to go from Chalong Bay to MAI THAI BAR by bike
possibly a little drunk?

Dont risk it,remember you are driving on the "opposite" side of the road, it will be dark, the driving standard in Thailand is appalling and you are not familiar with the route.Add alcohol to this and it has the potential to be fatal.
If you want to go into Patong, get a tuk-tuk,it won't be expensive and you can drink to your hearts content

Vighit Resort is between Chalong Circle and Rawai Beach. A nice friendly place although the beach is very poor. Nai Harn beach is about 10 minutes away and is probably one of the best on the island.
To get to Patong from there you can go along the coast road through Kata/Karon and then to Patong. It is a very scenic route with very little traffic until you get near Patong. I can't say I would recommend a motorbike for a night out in Patong, from Vighit a local taxi 300-500 baht would be a safer and quicker, or take the bike across in the daytime find a cheap room or bungalow for the night (around 500 baht) have dinner and a good night out without the hassle. Then simply ride the bike back the next day.
I live about 2km from Vighit and often visit Patong and stay over.
Hope this helps.

True Coolhand, but for the price of a couple of rounds of drinks,a tuk tuk or taxi is far safer

Oh yes I quite agree!
I remember someone posting picks of his gravel rash on here, and thinking he was lucky to get away with some grazed skin. I ws just pointing out that Chalong is not what I would call "within easy reach of the nightlife".

thanks
Thanks for the info gentlemen.
The resort looks nice but I'm a bit disapointed about the beach not being so great.
My wife and I are not swimmers but we like to splash around in shallow water.
What is the problem with the beach?...rocks?..dirty?
Nobby...if you are only a few km. from us it would be nice to hoist a beer or two with you
We will stay safe and take a tuk-tuk....last time I took a tuk-tuk was twenty three years ago.

They do drive on the left (sometimes), but the answer was to a question raised by Plsticsmith, who comes from Canada.

Sometimes on the left, sometimes in the middle, and most times wherever they like!

I lived in Chalong for a while. It is FAR from any action on the "wild side". Nai Harn is a very nice SMALL beach, but you won't find any night life there to speak of.
In Chalong Bay, you are a good 40 minutes by auto from Patong Beach. A tuk tuk typically goes much slower, and I would estimate an hour by tuk tuk from Chalong. A tuk-tuk from Chalong to Patong (or back) is something you may try once, and after that you will either skip the night life, or change hotels. Chalong is just TOO quiet, and TOO far away.
There are lots of quiet places in Karon and Kata that are closer than Chalong, and even in Patong one can find places that are quiet.
If you are arriving after 1-April-05 may I suggest Duangjit Resort in Patong. It has the largest grounds in Patong, and is not far from the Beach. It did receive some damage from the Tsunami, but the hotel is open (only lower floor closed). I believe they have one of their two swimming pools open. Low season price (1320 baht/night) is pretty good.

It is a good hotel to bring one's wife. Its not the sort of hotel to drag back a girlfriend that one has just met.

I like staying on or close to the beach. I stayed in Patong Bay Garden Resort right on the beach as my favourite Phuket Cabana is being rebuilt after the tsunami. I paid 3000 per day for a junior suite.
Another hotel I checked was Salathai, about 100 meters from the beach where their bigest suite, the Salathai suite also cost 3000 baht. Beautifull big room. Problem: they have 2 or 3 Salathai suites and only one is away from the street and the beerbars on the opposite side. Both hotels are on easy walking distance from Soi Bangla. Phuket Bay Garden is opposite Savoey Seafood, i.e. on the beach and 50/75 meters from Soi Bangla!

Mosquitos don't like me...too much scotch in my blood.
But if there is a mosquito anywhere on the island it will find my wife and give her a big red whelt.
Are they realy bad?

No, mosquitos are not really a problem in Patong. If you intend going jungle trekking up in the north of Thailand then its a different matter. Relax
Maybe it was just me,but read this Plasticsmith, could be I was wrong
