A good budget hotel

Anyone coming soon and unsure of where to stay I can recommend a good cheap hotel. Jintana Patong is guest friendly with ID no joiner fee (I asked) and has a good location. Its on a small soi on the left going up Rat u thid Rd between Bangla and Sawatdirak Rd.About 5/10min walk from MTB.It has a great pool, nice pool bar food and the rooms are clean.Make sure to ask for a double bed though .Its 750 baht a night and a bargain IMO.
They are on the web but not sure at this moment the address.

Update to last post, internet booking for Jintana Hotel quotes 750baht a night per week but a notice on the desk quotes a walk in price of 1200baht a night
Aussie Dollar told me he had the opposite and booked as I did last Oct/Nov on net for 1350 a night and its now 1000 a night at Stoney Monday.
Looks like you take a chance on whichever way you choose to buy your hotel
here is the website for Jintana.I really do recommend it for 750 a night

Is it just my imagination or is the king size room photo just a photshop blow up of a single bed as seen in the double bed room photo?

Cheers,

K.

You could be right as I only saw 2 single beds in each of our rooms
Definatelty have to ask for "king size " and not double rooms

I have the experience in Thailand that when you ask a double bed room you get 2 single beds. I allways ask a kingsize bed room. They don't know a 2-persons bed.

new years eve?

Hotel looks good but says there is a compulsory dinner for new years eve (2000baht). Is this standard practice for hotels at that time?

Yes, it is pretty much standard for all hotels with their own restaurants.

Yorkshire inn

If any board memebrs are interested..the yorkshire inn on soi sansabai is offering nice rooms for 700 baht per night at the moment. Seems like a good price and location. The hotel has just been taken over by a really great guy (Paul from Leed, UK). I was at his ownership signing party yesterday and I think we may be hearing more of this hotel in the near future. Will be staying here myself intead of CandN on my next visit.

I have just got back from Patong and stayed at another guesthouse just along from Yorkshire Inn. I must admit that it did look impressive from the outside, very clean and staff always smiled when I looked in. They also advertise an apartment as well (maybe there's more than one), which may be useful for anyone taking a family.

Cheers
Diz

Theres 6 apartments.. they are pretty stunningly done out but were 2500 per night.. Very very nice, DVD, stereo, excellent furnishings and woodwork etc but thats a lot for a place that doesnt have its own pool..

Met the new owner at Jeffs (the old owner)'s barbeque cookoff over in Kathu a couple of weeks back.. Hes just let my buddy (with a new family and baby) go from the place instead of keeping him on as GM.. Not sure if I have made my mind up on that yet..

Have they got a bar

Thanks for the recommendation Dawsey.

I read somewhere that there bar isn't open, can you clarify this mate?

If it is closed does it pose much of a problem?

I'm used to staying on Samui where I spend most of the day lazing on the beach drinking from the bungalow operators bar.

Thanks

Phil

Hi Phil
No there is no bar there apart from the poolside one which is open until the last swimmer has gone.To be honest,I wouldnt drink in a hotel bar anyway,no atmosphere there for me. A few mins walk and you are at the nearest bar anyway.
If you do choose the Jintana, there is a short cut that brings you out at the back of the Sailor Bar on the Beach Rd. Just turn left down a gravel lane by the gatemans box and follow it through for about 2 mins walk. You actually go past some of the locals living places but its cool. If you get lost, just ask for the beach, you'll be shown. Otherwise just leave the hotel and walk down a small soi that brings you on to Rat u Thd Rd. Turn right and Bangla Rd is less than 5 mins walk. You go past loads of bars to reach Bangla so in answer to your question,No its not a problem

Not when I stayed in '05. Also, prices have a risen a fair bit since I made the original post.
Hmm just checked and 800 baht a night inc breakfast until Sept 30th. Good value IMO if they have updated the hotel at all. The reception area and hallways looked a little tired over 3yrs ago. Didn't detract from a clean comfortable room though.
Maybe someone has stayed recently?
