Struggling to find hotels as cheap as this time last year

Hi all,

Im visitng Patong at the end of April/ beginning of May for two weeks with my wife and Im struggling to find a hotel with rates the same price as last year. Ive visited Patong year on year for a while now and this year Ive been quoted some of the highest room rates Ive ever been quoted when applying by e-mail. Can anyone tell me what the walk-in situation (i.e: better prices than pre-booking?) is like at the moment in Patong? Ive tried all the usual bargain basement hotels and all have pushed up their prices. Some a little...some a hell of a lot.

This is a frustrating dilemma for me because on the one hand I want to help the local economy by visiting for Phuket for my holidays but on the other hand I dont like it when hoteliers appear to be taking advantage of tourists. Id rather give money to them in other ways rather than my room rates having a few hundred baht added.

hi chukey its the thai way!when there are hard times simply up the price!--having said that though, it may be possible to book a room for one night, then have a look around for a walk in price?

This is generally my approach and it has worked well so far; it is far easier to find a better deal if you just take a hike around town for a couple of hours.

Don't know if it is your style or grade of hotel but the Patong Beach Lodge have certainly reduced thier room rates from last year. Good Luck!!

Good hotel rates

Twin Palms hotel in Surin is offering a two night stay for 3500. that includes the spa. It's a great and very upscale hotel. Amanpuri is half price (still $$$$)
The Chedi you can get a great deal.
Stoney Monday is good and located in patong if thats what you like and much cheaper than the others mentioned.

If you don't find a hotel than get here and than book and bargain at the desk as most hotels are 40% occupancy.

You don't have to book in advance!

Cheers!
