Thai Airways JFK - BKK

The new NY office issued my tickets today. I had to jump through a number of hoops since they are just getting this service started here on the east coast. I had to first book online, call over the phone to confirm the reservation, and then fax in my CC info. But it was still the cheapest flight from NY to BKK at 44,000 baht, much higher than my previous 27,000 baht deal of the month with Cathay Pacific, since we now have summer pricing here.

The flight will go direct from JFK to BKK in 17 hours on their new Airbus A340-500. http://www.thaiair.com/Travel_Destin...hai_to_nyc.htm

Hey cool, I just went through the same nightmarish ordeal. I had to fax everything to the LA office. Eventhough I hate JFK airport with a passion, I'm still saving about $ 400 if I went via LAX.

Out of curiosity, why do you hate JFK airport? Is there something I should be looking out for?

It's nothing bad actually, I just had several bad experiences there. Lets put it this way, in my opinion, it's not a very traveller friendly airport.

The only problem with that long haul flight, is that Thai have been greedy and put an extra seat in. On Thai they are 2x4x2 and Singapore Airlines is 2x3x2. I know if I was travelling that far I would want as much room as I could get.

When TG announced these flights, they had a special in the Bangkok Post of B31,000. Tried to get on as I've never been to New York, but couldn't get a seat.

Have a good flight anyway.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it quite a bit actually. Hows the food on Thai flights?

JFK is old and just takes forever to get to

As a frequent traveller out of JFK I have to agree that JFK is really a pain in the ass. First, the airport is just "dumpy" not at all what you would expect to see at the "capital of the world". Second, due to the education and minimum wage system in the U.S. many of the staff working out there are low class and not very service oriented. On many occations they are plain out rude and the service makes you feel that you are in a third world country rather than in the U.S. (AA terminal is in my opinion the worst one out there) Third, for some reason it just seems to take for forever to get through the security checks. Fourth, since NYC has a huge Domincan and Puerto Rican population and JFK is the primary airport serving those islands, with direct flights, the airport is very busy and crowded. Lastly, getting to JFK from Manhattan is a major pain as there is no dependable fast speed train (as in most other major cities). Instead you have to rely on getting a cab to get there which sometimes can get you there in less than 1/2 hour or sometimes 1 1/2 hour, depending on traffic, which makes planning very unreliable. Just my humble opinion. However, I am VERY stoked about the direct flight to BKK!!!!
