Fly, fast convienient, little bit expensive b3ecause they have a monopoly on the private airport.. Also have to pay a airport tax of around 500 baht which is a little con.

Bus and boat, takes a while (most of a day) and is a bit of messing about but its cheap, 450 baht I think last time I did it..

Taxi and boat, expenive unless theres 3 or 4 of you but again doable.. Donsak pier has a fast boat operating for 150 baht for foot passengers.

For the flights see www.bangkokair.com

I would take a 50 min flight over a 6-7 hour bus/boat/bus trip anyday.

Dito that...
Nice to see the country while travelling by bus, but hire a car instead so you can stop whenever you want..
Or take the flight if your time is limited.

I'd take the Bangkok airways solution..I took a flight to Koh Samui 7days ago..you can get a web promotion price around 1650bht but you have to travel either very early(6am) or late(22:00)..the airport tax is reduced since mid april to 300bht to let you know..then depending on where you will be staying you have to count the taxi fare..it's 400hundred to chaweng and maybe up to 600bht(pricey) to lamai..bo phut which is closer to the airport is 250bht. so up to you..i traveled a lot during my last trip with bkk air and they were pretty nice..excellent service, accurate on their times...just loved them. hope it helped..good luck..
