BKK - Phuket
Trying to book an internal flight at New year:
Thai Air 2600 baht - seems a bit expensive for 1 way ticket
Airasia - timetable only goes as far October
Phuket air - not currently a route that they cover - may do so in the future
I'm aware that flights will be booked up quickly at Christmas / new year - are there any other carriers between BKK and Phuket?

Thai Air was same price as this in March and April. Bangkok Airways was about 300baht cheaper at that time. Phuket Air,wouldnt touch them given their current situation.

I always do this when I travel to Bangkok, only once have I had to purchase business class because there were no economy seats on the next 3 flights. The same I always tell people when this question is asked, when you know your travel plans then book, otherwise you may well be very disappointed or your travel plans get disrupted.
The good thing with buying the full fare Thai seats is that you can change your booking without penalty up to 3 hours before the flight.

AirAsia only have 6 months in advance, I suggest you wait 2 months and then make your bookings with AirAsia for BKK - Phuket when the dates are available.

thai
i totaly agree with stevem if you pay the full price fare with thai you can change your travel plans easily
i once changed my ticket at a travel agent in patong 15 minuits before take off total cost baht 100
but as the post started with looking for cheap alternativs air asia can be the cheapest if you travel lightly they can hammer you on the exces bagadge
nok air have some attractive prices and as nike said maybe the best bet is wait a couple more months
but whatever you choose im sure you gonna have sanuk mak mak in los

If you book with Thai, for a flight that alows some leeway in your arrival time, they will anyway try to put you on the earliest flight available. Other airlines may not do this . ( I should add I had BC tickets)

Thanks to all
Thanks for all your comments - please keep them coming.
I am due to arrive in BKK at 19:55 so there are not many flights left to Phuket after that. Airasia might have one after 21:00 and Thai air definitely will have a couple.
How long will it take to tranfer from arrivals to checking in at the domestic flights? Does anyone suggest that i spend the night in BKK (to be safe) and travel on the following day?
Cheers

Hi all
Officialy you should hv 2 hours to take a domestic flight when arriving on a international flight.
But if you arrive on a Thai flight I think it is 1 hours, but I'm not sure, as you could take the flight to Phuket from International n go through the custom in Phuket.
Hv fun

Buy your ticket on Thai to Phuket, make sure you meet the minimum connection time, and checkin with it in Amsterdam or wherever your coming from. This is so that your luggage will be tagged straight through, and you will just need to go downstairs to gates 1 to 7, and get a bus to your Phuket bound flight. If you miss your connnection, then it Thai's problem and you will get a free nights accommodation.

My flight landed at 7 45 am and I had to collect the luggage, walk across the bridge, use electronic tickets to check in at Thai Air and found there was loads of time.Even had time for a Burger King before leaving BKK
As Dizbuster says though, it depends on a lot of luck with delays etc, but 1 hr is cutting it fine

Remember guys you wont be able to change your flight ticket to an earlier, if you check your bags through to phuket from your source airport e.g. London
No problem if you clear customs and get your bags at Bangkok, then its always possible to hop an earlier flight
