BUrasari Resort
Howzit everyone! My first post over here so nervous as hell! I'm planning a honeymoon trip to Phuket in December but will only stay for 7 days then heading off to Sydney to spend time with the family. Our agent quoted us on a stay at the Burasari Resort, anybody know it? Is it any good? What's the average price of beer over there? Those served outside happy hour? And also what would bottled water cost? We might stay 2 nights in Phi Phi islands, were quoted at Phi Phi island lodges, again, any good? We're from South Africa and still very unexperianced traveller's, our currency is pretty sh!tty so i need ballpark figures on what this will set me back!

Price of bottled beer is 70 baht in most bars. Water is about 10 to 20 bahts in most shops.
Now you know the price of your beer you can start calculating how many Rand's you need to exchange into Baht's ....
Enjoy your trip .....

I haven't stayed at the place myself, but from what I could gather in my search, your hotel is upscale and nice.
Good sized rooms, great pool, and friendly staff. 1 min walk to the beach and 10 min walk to bangla rd.
Couldn't find anything on my initial search on "Phi Phi island lodges."
Bottled beer, water and soft-drinks in a bar is on average 100 THB/bottle. Usually cheaper, but sometimes more more expensive.
1000 ZAR = 6200 THB

No need to be nervous. You'll have a great time.

Hi MrBaldus,
Welcome to the forum, feel free to ask any questions, but first have a quick look on the search function to see if your question has been asked before, this can sometimes help you.
With regard to meals, you will find eating out in Patong/Phuket very inexpensive. Depending on your tastes you can eat from as little as 100/150baht for the local foods and if you are a seafood lover you will be in heaven.
Enjoy your trip

Same as anywhere that i have been, if you don't want expensive don't eat at tourist restaurants.
I eat where the locals eat and i have never been sick from these places. I have been sick but it was from "better" restaurants.
The local food is safe, as are the Thais but do not drink the water as it sounds that you know.
If someone can’t have fun in this part of the world, being single or being just married there isn’t much hope for them.
I am sure that you will enjoy it. Hope the wedding and the holiday goes smoothly have fun.

Local roadside food can be as cheap as 20 - 30 baht but thats sitting on plastic stools under a tarpauling awning, not perhaps Honeymoon romantic but I eat that way for most of my meals..
Quality Thai food (though the taste will be the same and sometime worse than the thai frequented roadside eateries !!) perhaps 60 - 150 baht per dish (but is eaten in many dishes per meal like indian etc) in a nicer resurant setting.. Seafood a bit more but can eat a full slap up seafood nosh for 500 per head if you are carefull about not going nuts on King Prawns etc..
Farang grub starts at about 200 - 300 a big meal in sit down resurant going up to 600 - 1000 for imported steaks and hotel expensive..
Of course you can go to Baan Rim Pa or a couple of other boutique / high end places and spend 2000 - 5000 with a little wine etc in there..

I know the GM from this hotel and I think it's a very nice hotel especially for the price range it's in and where it's located in Patong. They have very good deals on buffets and F&B promotions so you should be happy there.
At least once during your stay you should visit the most beautiful and newest restaurant on the island, it's called Silk and you would be quite impressed with it. It's about 20 minutes outside of Patong and away from all the hustle and bustle. Also not as expensive as Baan Rim Pa and has better food.
I know the GM of Silk and he's a little bit of a ladies man so he only has good looking girls working there.
Cheers!

On the subject of roadside food, I agree that you are missing a trick if you don't try it, but watch out if there has been any rain.
A pharmacist once told me to never eat food that has been rained on, which was great advice but delivered a day too late..

And what would be wrong with rain water ???
I clearly remember on one of my first tours stopping in the little alley off Bangla that has a few stalls and room was limited, so we end up plonking down next to an aussie and his tilak.. He looks up and with a superb broad aussie drawl goes "G'Day boys.. Come down for some gutter tukker have ya"..
Maybe it was a had to be there moment but it was just such a superb line and delivery it has stayed with me all these years..
The roadside stalls serve some great stuff.. Try Hoi Thod (mussels in batter fried up with beansprouts) which almost any Phad Thai stall will do.. Or Jim Jum (isaan Suki) / Gho Tok (kind of a DIY brazier affair) both of which my girl is hooked on.. Fair play to the girl I offer a nice meal out at an expensive resturant and she insisits on jim jum again and again.. at 100 baht a head I will not try to convert her

hi mr baldus welcome! if you like good nightlife then bangla road is the best place to go,there are roads leading off of this road with lively entertainment going on,
these roads (or soi,s as they are known in thai),have different names ,soi eric is where the mai tai bar is situated,(half way up on the right hand side)-- and where some of the board members can sometimes be found, also the mai tai is owned by nicke who runs this board too, best of luck to your future !

If you are a family man, Burasari is a good choice. It has a nice swimming pool and an italian restaurant there. However, if you are an action man, find somewhereelse as the hotel charge joiner's fee. Last time, we paid 600 bahts and now I was told, they charge 800 bahts for it. Try C&N. They have 2 hotels, one near Bangla Road. Its location is good for action people. C&N Resort and Spa, on the other hand, is a little bit away from the bars but can easily get to by tuk tuk or motorbike taxi. Just next door is a restaurant/bar owned by a South African. They have parties every night except Monday as the shop is closed.

Don't you think it is a bit early telling a guy on his honeymoon that if he wants action there is a joiner fee?

Yeah but if his wife is Asian or Thai then expect them to be assholes to her.. Even if she is booked in and arrives with you as a paying guest non BG..
Said my piece on Burasai a few times.. so wont rehash. merely that I wont set foot back inside that establishment of rude customer unfriendly assholes ever again..

That is a good point to make. I have traveled to Thailand on 3 different ocassions with my japanese girlfriend. We never had any rude looks or attitudes until the last time. We always stay at nice upscale hotels / resorts. Last year we stayed at the Duangit for a few nigths and the staff there asked me for a joiner fee for my girl. I told them she was not that type of girl but they didnt believe me. It took showing them her passport for them to believe us. Must be said that my girl was extremely pissed and let it be known. She then talked to the manager and told them what had happened. My girl being Japanese and not a bar girl made the manager give the front desk clerk a good talking to. And in the end we were given one free night and complimentary dinners for the discriminatory remarks. Worked out well in the end but it still pisses my girl off when she talks about it.
Doesnt help that I call her my little thai bar girl to take the piss out of her.
Cheers,
Ashley

If I understood this well, I AM a bit drunk, this hotel is in Patong...
Sorry do not shoot me, I would not like to stay in Patong on a honeymoon!
At still a reasonable price, stay at the Dusit Laguna, in Laguna (Ban Tao area!). Quiet, nice romantic beach, with many small eateries just outside the hotel on the beach! Some fancy restaurants in the hotels, and not too far from "the restaurant you will have to visit" : Silk", the restaurant where our good friend "urtheman" is host!
Prices are higer though, but.....itnis your honeymoon! If it is durin x-mas holliday, then it is out of your budget, but always check here:
http://directrooms-thailand.com/dusi...phuket-130.htm
There are other possibilities. The chedi is very romantic, as is the amanpuri, wich imo is quiet too expensive! These hotels are bit too isolated, you really rely on the services off the hotel!
If you want to go to Patong, it will take you 25 minutes. But if you are on your honeymoon, I am not sure if that is the place, you want to spend every night. Very crowded, many tourists, ok some nice places to spend some time.
kata is very nice, my favourite, but for a honeymoon, Laguna is much better, because it is more exclusive!

Tintin,
Do you know the roomrate in Amanpuri? I would not suggest that hotel as replacement for Burasari. But close to Patong, small hotel with beautifull rooms: Baan Yin Dee.

i have stayed at the Burasarai a couple of times , nicehotel , nothing out of the ordinary though.
mind you that was before it was hit by the wave , so i have no idea what it is like now.
but for what it was worth the rooms were nice, especially the pool entrance ones.

I have had lots of friends go to the Marina Phuket Resort and they really liked it. southern end of Karon Beach and not your usual style resort. The have bungalows near the beach and the resort is built on a point using the natural jungle type environment.
http://www.marinaphuket.com/
reasonably priced.
15-20 minutes to patong. nice beach right beside property. restaurants at resort(including one right on the water's edge) and across street, dive shop on property, nice pool.
Have a great time wherever you stay.

Yes, I know the resort.
But no beach, very small, but indeed very nice.
Of course the Amanpuri is for the rich and beautiful, would not stay there!
But the dusit could be an option, if not booked during x-mas period. Baan Yin Dee is not that cheap either during hollidays btw. If he could pay 2000 bath a night more during certain periods, it IS a beautiful getaway. The hotels restaurant are damn expensive, but not the small and nice restaurants on the beach next to it!
But I have to say, hotels are vere expensive during x-mas period. I am happy that I am staying in a rented house (not my honeymoon! ), because I could not cough up the prices they ask for it!
A hotel I like too is the Andaman Cannacia in Kata. The honeymoon room is nice, beautiful view over the beach and a jacuzi outside. They have interesting packages sometimes.
Although not so bad, the room could be nicer decorated and need some refreshing now! And I would definite take a hotel on the beach. This one is on a hill. Again, all this regarding for a honeymoon, for normal travel i would not mind!
