BKK to Phuket
I'm in Bangkok for w/c 27th June, wanting to spend 3/4 days in Phuket, (lurking around on this forum has persuded me to take a look) travelling from UK.
What is best way to get a flight i.e book on via Thai air now in advance from UK or book when in BKK, if so what is best/cheapest way to book.

it seems, to me, that all the cheap airlines, air asia, nok air, have gone up in price and are almost as much as thai airways and bkk airways. what i do is just go to the airport and jump on the next flight available. its usually a matter of 500-1000baht difference

thanks Marc, that's enough to pick out the relevant sites, great to see the prices are cheaper than I thought, if I understand correctly I'll get a similiar deal by just turning up at the Airport

Barty, i never have any clue where or when I am going anywhere so usually just book from BKK to where ever seems to be good at the time. Being a cheapskate I usually walk from one to the next and book the best deal subjest to when its going. It is a real cheapskate manouver as usually there is very little to choose between them and at the peak you are only considering £30. Yeah i know, but sometimes we quibble over 50 baht tip and then pay 2000b for a bg instead of 1000b cos its just easier.

I like Bangkok Air and fly it to BKK most of the time. It's alot cheaper then Thai Air it's most of the time on time and three flights a day.
Cheers!

Thanks folks, I'm actually flying over from the UK on a free Thai airways flight, won on a prevous flight to BKK in Feb. just had to pay £67 tax
It's seems great that you can use the flights like buses, just turn up and hop on. Another question is there much difference in booking two single tickets i.e. seperately at each airport on the day, as opposed to a return. I'm similiar to Dodger in that I'd like as much flexibility as possible, as long as it doesn't cost too much.

The only problem with Nok / Bangkok / 12go / etc airlines is they have the horrible wait room and exit desk... Once you 'check in' your trapped in the less than pleasant exit terminal while Thai (dragon / tiger) all have the much nicer wait rooms..
If you can acually get one of these elusive 499 seats then I guess its worth it, but if (like me) you end up paying closer to 2k for a discounter (bkk air has always been 1850 and nok has usually been 1200 + tax) I would rather drop another 500 for the freedom of walk in no timescale service... Plus forget about any help if you miss a budget flight. Thai will usually put on the next one, budgets forget it..
Though right now GF1 needs to do a BKK hop and so I will probably look for bargains (gentleman that I am)...

With you there, I always fly TG to BKK. You pay for the flexibility and convenience, something that I'm prepared to do.

You can get a 20% reduced price at thai, when you go to specials. But the page is only in thai and you have to guess the wording for Bangkok, Phuket and the Month (hint : Bangkok is the longest word, the month ends i September, therefore June is the 4th last.)
On the next page you can select your flight time, this time in standard english format....

I am bumping this thread because I have a smiliar question. I will be flying itno Bangkok too late at night to catch a flight to Phuket so I am planning on leaving for Phuket the following early afternoon. Should I just go ahead and book the flight now since I know the exact date and such when I will be needing to fly? Also, once again so I am clear, which would be the best airline to make this flight with? I'm a pretty big guy so cramped waiting areas and such arent exactly my thing. I am willing to spend a little more for a more comfortable experience. Thanks...MTD

If your going to do this, then be picky with your flight choice, as you dont want to pay the extra for business class and fly on one of the old ratty A300's. Try for the following flights
TG921 0800 0920 normally 747
TG203 0910 1030 normally 777
TG215 1925 2045 normally 777

Prices start at 4.99bht plus tax, you need your passport to book over the net. Think they are about the cheapest

Thai is only 5280 Bt.
And like has been said before, no hassles changing to another flight.
nearly always on time and an extensive schedule.
Always Thai for me.

If on a 747 try to get a seat as near to the front as you can - these usually have the first class cabin sold as business.

They dont allocate first class anymore, they used to put gold card members there.
