As my normal hotel "Impiana Phuket Cabana" is still under construction I am using Patong Bay Garden. Normally it is not guest friendly (staff said), but I asked before and booked a room for 2, so I have no problem. I booked a junior suite. Excellent big room with everything in it. On the beach, so no problems crossing the street, which I like. I am on the beach near my room. Very friendly staff. Only minus point is breakfast which is bellow average.

No. I allways fly Thai and am a Frequent Flyer. FF silver is 30kg and FF gold is 40 kg (in economy). I succeeded in obtaining gold status, so even in economy I have check at the business counter, 40 kg and access to the business lounge.
One time they told me to pay extra: on a trip to Dubai with Lufthansa. When I asked how much the answer was that I had only 16 kg of luggage and the rest was my golf bag, so they skipped it.

Anyone know based on recent experience whether the Patong Beach Garden Resort charges a joiners fee. I've already made reservations so I'll deal with it, but would like to know for sure and, if they do, the procedure--check her ID card at a security desk or what?

Back 14 days. I did not pay joiner fee. Normally they ask (they tell me), but I book a room for 2 and tell them that I check out if I have to pay joiner. Makes no difference to them as I don't take the girl for breakfast. Girl's ID-card required at thr reception.
