I been looking for some cheap tickets to phuket from usa and best i found was like 2300 round trip, I have 2 travel windows i can travel in summer Late may to early august or december to january. Looking for a 14 day stay or better any time i travel.

In kansas, some have said flying to bangkok is cheaper then catching a flight to phuket.
Main reason im thinking phuket is the island looks much nicer in the pictures i seen then bangkok, even tho i hear the prices are higher

Yes I would recommend booking a flight to bangkok and then booking from there to phuket. I checked travelocity for August from Wichita, Kansas to Bangkok and came up with $893 round trip on American Airlines. From there you can catch a cheap flight to phuket, or stay in bangkok a little while then head south.
