Utilities Costs
hi guys (and gals)!
do you all have a rough idea of the utilities cost here? like how much is the per unit cost for electricity, water, cooking gas if i live in the rented mansion room or a guesthouse? can i bargain the costs with them before i decide to rent the place?
any other sub costs i need to know of?
the cost of laundry shops? do they go by per piece, or?

Laundry is very cheap compared to 'home' prices.. most go by piece but some by KG..
Electricity and water depends on how your billed.. I have to pay 4 baht per unit electricity which is slightly inflated my old place was 2.? baht + fuel surcharge + bits... came to around 3 or so.. also electricity is on a sliding scale so the first 100 units are cheaper then the next few 100 units going up..
I think governement water is approx 3 or 4 baht per cube but again, many places are on wells or need to add additional pump stations for pressure.. Landlords will price accordingly.. I hear in BKK getting pressure up into high rise condo's often leads to much higher water charges..
Always clear up electricity costs and water costs before renting somewhere..
Sorry thats all so vague but this is Thailand.. What is the rule in one place is totally different in another house.. Many smaller apartments and rooms are fixed price for all inclusive..

Wow! the Tai-Tan Mansion quoted 5 baht per unit for electricity, and 15 baht per meter cube! and chaofa apartment electricity is same as Tai-Tan, but the water's at 10 baht per meter cube.
wat a rip off!

Tried to find the last water and power bills at home last night, but as usual my filling system won. I do remember that the water bill was a huge 86 baht, and the power was around 500 baht.

I didnt bargain and my water is 35 baht per unit !! In dry season the maintenance people water the gardens daily and that was using 100 cubes or so a month !!!
Exact government rates are listed here
http://www.aseanenergy.org/download/...ity_Tariff.pdf
Or Googled in HTML here

Certainly 5 baht is high and he is nearly doubling his money on you for low usage.. Problem my area has is that it was classed as a business are (the development) and as such is charged Biz rates at 3.6 baht per unit..
15 baht per cube might need some pumping costs attached.. How they source thier water (well / Artisan bore / Gov water) would all have an impact.. Mine is expensive but I have someone to shout at if the water drys up (as it did a few months back) he was then getting water trucks up daily at >150 baht per cube...

laundry is 40 Baht per kg in the backroad of Kata. But beware that you order by kilo and not per piece. Last time I got my travel suite washed for 40 Baht. One day later my gf paid 150 Baht, because she didnīt check before and got a neat little invoice by piece.
