Cash or Visa ?

I'm coming to Patong in Sep. and was wondering about payment for the hotel. Do they accept cash ? (upfront I guess ?). For several reasons using my visa may cause some problems

Some hotels will change cash for a fee. But most want paid with Thai money, or credit card.. Still it is no problem to change the money. You just walk out of the hotel and down to the money exchanges. All banks have a window on the street where they change foreign currencies to Baht(if they are not out on break, which they often are at some banks!). On Bangla and the Beach Road, there are a number of exchange windows without banks attached!

Also, in some towns, the travel agents and others have signs for changing currency, but the rate they give is not as good. In airports, there are usually several exchange windows with good enough rates, so you can change as soon as you are off the plane and through customs.

Personally, I prefer traveller's cheques!! They are also changeable at the currency exchanges.

Yes....cash is fine...they probably prefer it as they will not have to pay commission to the credit card companies

Also, you are not usually required to pay upfront. Only a couple of times have I ever been asked to pay upfront, and that was at smaller, cheaper hotels.

Send a message via ICQ to Nicke
Usually they add the 3-5% bank fee depending on card if you pay by card, this is true for most travel agents and many shops too.
