The Best of All Worlds
I've read with interest all the informative posts about hotels, BG friendly etc.
I've also searched a lot of the links to the hotels recommended. It can sometimes seem like a bit of a maze
What I'm looking for is a bit of the personal touch from BM's.
I'm 41, like a good time, but also like some comfort. I may spend a few nights indoors if I find the right sort of company So room comforts such as balcony (with a view) and maybe even a spa bath in the room would be nice.
Some of the hotels I've seen have these in the more expensive suites of course, but I'd like to find something not quite so extravagent price-wise (not to mention that the 'classier' joints sometimes frown on guests).
I'd appreciate some feedback from the BM's who've no doubt 'been there done that', including rough prices for September.
Thanks in advance, I appreciate the good advice found here

Bonjour Marquis,
Where do you plan to stay in Phuket? Patong or quieter area (Kata-Karon..) or very quiet area (Rawai, nai Harn...) ?
Do you plan to bring some girl to your hotel ? If yes, many luxury resorts will charge a joiner fee (500-1000 bath a night), so it would increase your budget.
I wonder if it wouldn't be more intresting to rent a nice appartment for 1 month even if you don't stay so long, all depends on the average budget you want to spend, I think.
IMHO, I wouldn't book on Internet, but I would directly call the resort-hotel-renter. You will probably get a better price if you deal a bit.
If you can give us more precisions, it will be easier to help you in your seek

In Patong, the Lelawadee Bontique Hotel is quite nice. It's 1200 baht a night, with a balcony and a small pool. It's next to C&N Spa & Resort.
The Kamala Terrance Beach Resort was nicer, at 1600 baht. It's in Kamala Bay with a balcony overlook the bay. Although I understand it's closed after the tsunami.
For more upmarket you could try the Baan Yee Dee Bontique Hotel at the south end of Patong. I think it's about 4700 baht a night. Very romantic.

Salut Domi, Hi Mariner.
Thanks for the tips so far, and yes Domi, you're right, it would help if I was more precise .
I'd like something closer to the action as I don't want the commuting in and out with BG every day and night (except the right kind of commuting of course )
So Patong Beach preferably. I know this makes it a little more difficult as most of the good stuff is set back from the main strip, but still, you never know. As far as budget goes, I can get a nice room for 7-800TB (Orchid)and around 1000 gets you a good selection, so if possible wouldn't want to be paying way over the odds unless it was really worth it. (sometimes the difference between something decent and something only a little bit better, is ridiculous). I'm travelling alone so I don't need a palace.
Domi, I think I checked your friend's website for appartments, looks interesting. I'll check again in more detail. Bafana seems to like the C&N...
Thanks again, and Mariner I'll check out your tips. I'm glad you're still up for it at your age
P.S Definitely BG Friendly

Salut Marquis,
Yes, C&N has a good value for the price, nice rooms, there is a lift, 50 meters away from Bangla, no terrace but very large windows, good beds... it's 800 bath in September.
For that price, you can also find a little apartment, but maybe 2 km from the nightscene in the nanai area (just rent a motorbike or use a bike taxi or a tuk tuk)
For example :
http://www.deliver-it.nl/houses/STR/20050127-p0021/
http://www.baan-suphan.com/
http://www.phuketdir.com/nanairesidence/
http://www.phuket.com/nanaivilla/rates.htm
The first one looks nice, there is a swimmingpool and Wellta, who rent the place, will offer you a very good service. Of course, the distance from Bangla is longer than if you stay at C&N, but it is really quieter, larger and very cumfortable.
There is also a list of "free joiner fee" accomodations on http://www.phuket-info.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6567 (Thanks Erik for post it and AD to find it back in another thread)
Hope this helps

Merci Domi,
I'll check the links. Some of the appartments I saw were very nice for the price, sure beats a hotel
At this point, because I'm only staying a week, I might take the easy option of a hotel. Convenience above all..An appart' would definitely be great for a longer stay...
Since Bafana stays at C&N it MUST be guest friendly
Look forward to a beer or 2 'ensemble'.

The first one is the Toy residence.. it doesnt have its own pool directly but uses the pool slightly below it fo Blue Sky residence..
Blue sky has better prices and suites IMHO..
I have haggled the Andaman hill hotel down to 500 a night a few times.. nice hotel, very nice big pool, close to Nanai Rd is its only drawback..
Theres some construction going on in the Palm view on Nanai right now.. dont know how long it will last but regularly get 800 baht for their poolside rooms.. great place
There are many many nice places on Nanai.. Its down to the BM if they are ok to have a bike and allow themselves to not focus on Bangla.. Personally I like Nanai's daytime scene and would always treat it like that... Stay outside of the mad areas.. Nanai in afternoons and Bangla at nights.. Nanai is much more 'real' than Bangla, more expats, more long term stayers, where the girls live, etc.. Its a couple of minutes on a bike from Bangla and beach Rd..

C&N is definitively guest friendly... I even think the girl at the reception desk would be surprised to see a guest coming back late without a girl
And for the beers... avec grand plaisir, Marquis

Thanks for all the input guys. I think because it's going to be a bit hit-and-run this time, and my first time back to Patong for years (don't ask how many ) I'll go for something central. Although I do appreciate your comments about 'real' LivinLOS, maybe when I have a longer stay.
If I have any further queries, I'll post an update. In the meantime, looking forward to meeting some BM's. Of all the forums I'm on, this is by far the most user-friendly.

You could also try Safari Hotel at the corner of Beach Road and Bangla Road.
They hv a pool also.
Don't remember the price but when I stayed there it was ok.

Hey Peter, Tak
I'll check out all the suggestions. I have a quote of 600 from C&N (sans bkfast) so that's cheap enough.
Thanks again all, homework time...
