Nice to Know they Still love me!

Just got this e-mail:

Dear Mr ****,

As you are a valued customer to British Airways, I would like to provide you with an update on the current problems we are experiencing with our onboard catering, due to unofficial industrial action by our Heathrow catering supplier Gate Gourmet.

Although British Airways services into and out of London Heathrow continue to operate as normal, we have limited onboard catering. There will be some catering provided at the airport prior to departure, however, we are continuing to advise passengers, especially those with special dietary requirements, to eat before arriving at the airport.

British Airways services to and from London Gatwick and UK regional services that do not connect with London Heathrow have not been affected and are operating as normal with a full catering service.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this situation may cause our passengers and would like to assure you that we are doing all possible to return to the high service standards you have come to expect from us.

For more information please visit http://ba.com

Yours sincerely,

Martin George
Commercial Director, British Airways

72 Hours at Heathrow!

Just had a fantastic time on my way back to Baghdad through Terminal 3!

Delayed flight out of Manchester to Heathrow (Broken radio and two aircraft changes later, no food or drink) to arrive one hour after my Royal Jordanian flight to Amman had departed. No hotel offered. RJ office in London closed until the next day. Night one in T3!

Following days RJ flight fully booked as the BA one had been cancelled and the pax bumped onto this flight. Start to look for hotel for the night!! ha ha ha They are all fully booked unless you want to travel at least two hours to one. I bunk at a mates house for the night. Shower, TV, a meal and a beer or three.

Return to T3 to the rugby scrum at check in for the 1705 to Amman and manage to get a seat on another 'over-sold' aircraft to connect with my RJ flight into Baghdad. Not in too much of a rush now to get back into Baghdad but the engines packed in on take off! So another three hour delay until another plane is prepared for us to transfer onto! They have informed me that my bag is currently in either Damascus or Beirut!

I still have my tickets for the LOS though!

Don't know about BA, but a lot of airlines won't let you prebook emergency exit seats. They allocate them at check-in , to ensure you are physically able to cope in an emergency. Also , window seat at emergency exit has large bump ( escape slide) which can be a pain if your trying to stretch out.

If your a frequent flyer and have lots of miles, try for an upgrade, Business Class is sooo much nicer.

Great seats for leg room - not so big if you're a large **** like me as the table is in the armrest making the seat slightly narrower. Also there is no floor storage in these seats, no windows, and small children are often placed here.

Also, in the last 3 rows on each side 51, 52 + 53, there is a bit of extra space between the window and seats A + K, pretty much as it appears on the picture. The downside is that you are right by the toilets, but this didn't bother me.

Cheers
Diz

it is worth remembering that altho this seating plan is correct,a lot of the 747s are having the new dusk 2 mod incorporated and seating plans are changed thru out the cabin.so instead of quoting seat numbers it is better to ask for the emergency exit seats or back of cabin seats.
i say this as the new mod for seating is being prioritised for the asian hubs first.

Thanks for the info Peeps, all good stuff.

I am flying BA but not doing the long haul from UK as I am currently in Baghdad. I have a convoluted route through the Middle East until I connect in Dubai for my onwards flight to BKK and then Thai Airways for the hop to Phuket.

I did manage to get onto the floor plan of the plane through the BA site as Diz suggested but as you can imagine! There isn't a great deal left on there and none of the suggested seats. I am going economy as it was really cheap, so cheap that they won't let me upgrade over the internet. They did advise me to try at the airport when checking in however. I only have six hours or so anyway this time, so not much of a problem. I will bear in mind your advice for future flights, good stuff and many thanks.

If you take a look at the commented plans on http://www.seatguru.com/ or http://www.seatguru.com/ you can also get an idea of bad seats to avoid.

You could also try checking in online (if allowed at Dubai) which opens 24 hours before the flight - seat availablility might be different then.

What no plans show is wether there is an inflight entertainment box on the floor in front of the seat which i find to be the biggest annoyance.
