Tranfer time BKK

Hi all,

I am now completing my bookings for my November vacation

Arriving to BKK November 19:th 3.20 PM with Scandinavian ( well I donīt like SAS, but the frequent flyers programme made a R/T in busness class possible for 1800Bath in taxes). How much time do I need on BBK for transfer, planned to book Thai for BKK-Phuket.

The returnflight starts 0.35 AM from BKK December 2:nd, when do you advice me to leave Phuket?

Any BM:s staying at Salathai Resort this period?

I wouldn't make it any tighter then two hours on the way down just in case your plane is delayed, if you are flying with thai air to phuket usually not to much problem cos they fly almost every hour and allow you to change ticket if space. Coming back leave hotel at 8.00pm, 45 mins to airport, hour fifteen flight then gives you 2 hours before at bkk, pleanty of time to get a few last minute duty frees.

Try this thread regarding transfer times

I asked a similar question regarding transfer times - here is the answer I got from Diz

If you arrive at 19.55 and then try for the 21.oo that you mention, then I think you are cutting it very fine. Unfortunately you have to rely on circumstances a lot, one day you might be lucky, then next day not so lucky.

1. Fill in your Entry/Exit card on the plane.
Lucky day : you remember a pen.
Unlucky day : you forget pen and cannot find anyone nearby who has one, find pen and then it runs out !!

2. Immigration.
Lucky day : gate is close, plenty of desks open with little or no queue.
Unlucky day : you are miles away !! After walking for what seems like forever, you get there and there are only a few desks open and the queues are long.

3. Baggage Reclaim
Lucky day : suitcases on belt going round as you ge there.
Unlucky day : you see lots of passengers from your flight taking cases off, but no sign of yours.

4. Customs
Lucky day : breeze through !!
Unlucky day : get stopped !!

5. Getting to Domestic Terminal
Lucky day : get outside and straight on to special bus service which leaves straight away.
Unlucky day : no sign of bus so you walk, using connecting walkway (about 1/2 mile).

6. Domestic check-in
Lucky day : jump off bus and go straight up to check-in desk with no queue.
Unlucky day : arrived knackered from walking all that way with case and even though there is air-con, you are still sweating buckets !! Long queue at check-in.

7. Take off
Lucky day : take off is delayed by about 10/15 minutes, just enough to give you a bit extra time, but not enough to mean you get to Phuket late - job well done !!
Unlucky day : plane takes off on time, you're somewhere in the terminal and not on board

So what's your luck like normally ??

Cheers
Diz

My "luck factor" is not very high. I am the one who always get my luggage last or have to claim it!

My flight normally arrives at 15:40 and I normally fly on the 18:20. This is ample time, normally, and I could probably get an earlier flight.
However, these new facial recognition cameras seem to be holding things up a bit, and I don't like to be rushed, and I enjoy a heineken or three in the "Smoking Bar" in domestic departures.

SAS is a member of Star Alliance. So he can check his luggage through to Pkuket and pass immigration and customs in Phuket. No need to transfer to domestic in BKK, so 2 hours is more than enough. Flying back Pass Immigration in Phuket and check your luggage through to Scandinavia. Take TG920 (dep Phuket 2040) or even one later.

Seeing as you know your plans, buy your BKK/HKT/BKK ticket from the same travel agent. That way you be ensured you will have the LEGAL MINIMUM CONNECTION TIME, otherwise if your inbound flight is delayed you may find Thai fairly unco-operative as you have not had the correct connecting times. You may even find that SAS will not label your bags though to HKT as well, if the minimum time is not observed.

When you get off plane you are directed to either domestic or international area, luggage/passport control etc. Returning Phuket - Bangkok, international passengers go via transit/transfer area.

I never take the risk of getting the last flight of the day, if your taxi has problems or there is traffic hold-ups and you miss your flight your stuck. If you go for the 20.40 , at least you have a bit of time to spare and can always have a few extra beers in Bangkok.

What i do is always leave plenty of time (3+ hours) between incoming and out going when having to through immagration at BKK. This way I tend to be able to get a 'few' beers in at the domestic terminal before sobering up on the plane to phuket and the taxi to Patong, then restarting at MTB. I always try to get a later flight in to phuket because of this (Landing after 7pm).

On the way back, i tend to be too groggy from the black death to care about time between flights.

But if you book with the same company, both tickets then there shouldn't be any problem.

Just 102 days and counting, before the bar at BKK!!!!!
