Hydrofoil to Similian Islands

They say it's only 1.45 hours from Patong. That seems a little optimistic unless these things really move. Has anyone tried this. I've been wanting to make it to the Similians, but I can never seem to get out of bed in time.

Oh yes these things really shift eg Hong Kong to Macau in 1 hour some of them do 90km/hr! But very restricted by the weather, and noisy. Go for a business class seat if available.

It must more pleasant than with a normal boat : 1 hour car tll the seaport, then 3 hours on a boat if I remember well (good luck if the sea is bad), 2 or 3 hours on the island with a little lunch and it's already time to come back. The island is beautiful (a little dirty around the camping), but the trip is too long for me.

A hydrofoil from Patong should considerabily reduce the trip time and allow you a longer time on the island.

The hydrofoil Kon-Tiki used to Similan from Patong sank in the Tsunami hydrofoil wreck

They had also a hydrofoil going to Similan from Khao-Lak, maybe they use this one from Patong Kon-Tiki fleet

I have used the hydrofoil 1 time. It was a bumpy(unconfortable) but fast trip.

Thanks for the helpful info. I think I'll give it a go if the weather is good. I love snorkeling and scuba in beautiful water.
