Koh Samui only by BKKAiR?

Quick question before I book my tix. Is there a different name for the airport in Koh Samui? Is BKKair the only airline that flies to Koh Samui? Because AirAsia and ThaiAirways doesn't seem to have it in their destinations.. please let me know thanks.

** I realized AirAsia price of a ticket from BKK to Phuket is only 1100, and the BKKair is like more than double the price. I had no problems with AirAsia the past two times I have taken it. But I cannot seem to find Koh Samui on their list of destinations.

Samui airport was financed and built by bangkok airways it is owned 100% by them thus they dont allow any other company to fly in/out of there you can fly to from phuket/pattaya/bangkok/chiang mai/singapore/ the only other way to get there is to fly to Surat thani and take the ferry from there i personally always fly with bangkok airways good service and flight any other in fo i can give you on samui especially lamai beach just pm me

Yes, Samui Airport is owned or managed by Bangkok Air, so they operate a monopoly, and they sting you for a hefty airport tax, unless you are only staying for a few hours.

Another alternative is to fly to Surathani with Thai Air and get a ferry.

However it is a great little airport....

Its the way you have to approach in the ATR, you literally fly the aircraft into the runway, seems not right sitting down the back, but is way fun when you know whats going on.

Hefty tax?? Is that tax already included in the air plane tickets???

Thanks guys for your quick input. Might as well spring for it. Get it out of the way and now just hotel fees. Then I can look forward to my vacation!
