Gambling is illegal by law, but Thais love gambling anyway and its a huge underground business in Thailand.

Can you mention some gambling sites so i can test to reach them? I am not sure but I think Thai ISPs just block by their DNS, so switching to another DNS may help. Another way is to use proxies. (Hm, maybe a good idea to setup one on this server for my own use )

Just install and use GhostSurf, no problems getting anywhere.

If you go to one of these addresses, you can dowload the software and test it out - it would be much appreciated:

http://www.empirepoker.com
http://www.eurobet.com
http://www.pokerstars.com
http://www.partypoker

If one of these sites work, they all should work.

Anyway - found two hotels with internet wireless (in karon and kata, though) - any of you know these?

http://www.houseinphuket.com/houses/STR/20050312-p0046/

http://www.houseinphuket.com/houses/STR/20050324-p0053/

Advice would again be appreciated...

Eurobet.com was blocked for me, the others worked fine. I have to go to the bar now but I will test with different DNS servers later to find out if it works.

Fred, I say it again!
Victoria Guesthouse
I have been surching a flat with telephone-line because I'll do a lot of work on my maps when I'm down this winter! But I've giving up. I'm gonna use the wireless ADSL at Victoria. I'm even consider to rent one of there smaller rooms and use at a office!
Maybee we can share office there?? Somebody else interested?
Victoria is walking distance to everything in central Patong!
Nice bar, wonderful food and close to the beach if You want to go for a swim!
AND a guesthouse thet even print "guest friendly" at their website!
I'm NOT the owner any more, but I still have my heart there!

The second one is CC Blooms, nice spot but up the mountain. Either rent your own Motorbike or you can use their free transport (They drive you even to patong I believe) You can get a local phone you can use to call them when you want to be picked up. Real good deal

Wireless access in the rooms. Nice cosy spot. Breakfast they need to work on but then there were not that many people there.

They just opened 8 months ago and Skip the owner is a great guy. And when you talk about guestfriendly, this must be the place: Their minibars sells condoms

Erik, can you put in a good word with Skip for me, I am having a look around his place with Wellta with a view to a long lease when I am over there! Tell him I can do the breakfasts, they are world famous! Cheers Erik

Well - the thing is that I was considering just getting a room long-term, and therefore I need to know what its like. I am still not sure where I'm going to end up, but Karon and Patong are the likely places. I could get sick and tired of lots of "noise", if you know what I mean...

We'll see what happens, but unless you want me to LIVE in the office, I don't think it is optimal...

But we'll see...

We used the hotspot at Thara Patong (near Rio's) & also an internet cafe who allowed us to hook our laptops to his network for B1/minute.

Thara Patong is no way near Rio. It is a 5-10 minutes walk. Maybe you mean the Salsa bar.

Think you are right. I think it was one street before Rio if you're from Patong Premier Resort. I also think there is a police station or school at the corner. Used to walking, everywhere seems near to us.

Thats Sawatdirak Rd Mike. It is a school on the corner(Ban Sainamyen School) and also the main entrance to Thara Patong.I don't think its the main entrance on the Beach Rd at least not to receive transported guests.

Gambling is illegal in Thailand unless it's government run But then so are many other things

Hi ken,
just found such information, but this is in Karon Beach :

http://www.hotel-mermaid.com/rooms.htm ,

but their WiFi is working, I have used it last March 2005 several times (and they say that WiFi is in room as well - I was just in the lobby with my laptop ).
