Orchid Hotel Kalim Bay and Restaurants

I'm thinking of booking in to the Orchid Hotel, they have a good deal at the moment (1100thb) for a superior seaview, 5 nights pay for 4.

Any comments on this hotel ?

Also any advice about good restaurants for dinner would be appreciated. Not necessarily up-scale, just good quality and relaxed.

Thanks in advance.

So nobody here has heard of this hotel ? Hard to believe.

How about some restaurant reviews ? What are your favourites for a romantic assignation with your GF ?

I know where the hotel is. But that is about all. Don't know if girlfriendly. What I know is that you will use tuctuc to go to Patong.

Looks a bit far out of town this, I have never heard of the place. I just e-mailed them though, to find out what their 'overnight room guest' policy is.

Are you thinking of restaurants out near the hotel, or just looking for places in Patong?

They do say on their website that they will take you into Patong 'or anywhere on Phuket', which could be a bit of a giveaway regarding location. I would not use a tuk-tuk except in desperation.

Just down the road - Pan Yah Restaurant - great sunset views - very good food - reasonable prices.

Farther down the road - Sunset Point - spectacular sunset views - but a bit pricey for what they are. Decent food though.

Pan Yaah is one of my fav. Close by. 5 minutes walk maybe to Coral Beach/Novotel/Baan Rim Paa at the border of Phuket. But then another 15 minutes to Soi Bangla.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Yes, I think those maps they give out are a little deceptive. Everything always looks close on the map

Still looks like a nice place though.

I'll look up the restaurants mentioned. Much appreciated.

Sounds good. I'll definitely check it out.

Regarding the hotel, I didn't ask about the guest policy as it's a double, but thanks for the confirmation. Another one to add to the list. ;-)

I must say however, that when I made the reservation through the BKKTonite site, they required 100% deposit

By the sound of things down there, I could probably just turn up and still get a room most places in September.

Does that sound about right to you guys ? Or do you recommend booking.?

I would book one or two nights initially, gives you time to get your bearings and decide if you like the place or not. If you do, stay on, if not then you can find find somewhere else.

There is not much worse than being stuck in the wrong hotel.

Too true.

That's what I'd do myself. Keep one's options open.
