I live in Japan and fly with JAL all the time. They are a very good airline. Service is extremely good and planes are comfortable. Would recommend them to anyone.
Cheers,
Ashley

Yeah as Diz has said, and i've mentioned before. What the offical price is and what some tickets sell at are alot diffirent.
To follow on from the example above, when i asked eastwesttravel, they quoted me £800 for Eva's full business class (which is Premium laural class. Evergreen deluxe is now called Elite on the new planes, which is still there Premuim economy according to the website!), where as the best their offical price was over £3000 for the same flight! So just check some specialst travel agencies in the US, as im sure the price will come down quite considerably! In fact check over a few weeks, as prices can go up and down depending on percentage of seats booked to time remaining to flight!
My parents nearly had a heart-attack the other day when i left my tickets on my table. My dad picked it up and read it and thought id paid £5300 for them as thats what printed as the price on them. Took me an hour and strong cup's of tea to calm them down. (But now they think im a drug dealer or something!)

Nah, a drug dealer would have money, not rely on the Ukraine!

I hope you're a fairly small person.
JAL is not known for their generous "leg room". They are cheaper 'cause they cram more seats into their jets than others - so I have heard. However, it's hearsay as I've never flown with them. I've flown Thai and China Airlines only.
If you are going to a lot of places, look into an All Asia Pass from Cathay Pacific. They are a good airline, especially in 1st class and the pass is a good deal.

ok thanks for the advice.....anybody ever flown "all nippon airways" ? they are much more affordable than thai or eva. china is the cheapest but they have a very, very notorious reputation (at least in US) for not being the safest.....to say the least. how is cathay pacific on the leg room? any help would be great!!!

Theres a few different airlines that all get lumped under 'china' air.. I know I flew regularly with China for a few years and was pretty happy with them.. even without the rpice difference would take them over BA or KLM whose stars are falling IMHO..

Hi sxygirl,
I am going to Cambodia in 10 days so I booked a round trip 9-17-05 to 10-2-05 from LAX to BKK with EVA for $612, then booked a RT 9-19-05 to 9-25-05 for the next day from BKK to PNH (Phnom Penh) with Bangkok air for $297. I did a lot of research on the PHN flight and found that I could get it for about $85 cheaper in BKK travel agencies, but at the risk of getting scammed/bait & switch. Good luck!

TG are the only ones that fly NON STOP LAX to BKK. Recently they have been experiencing problems with their new A340-500 airbuses and having using their A340-600, which necessitates a tech stop for fueling.

to dizbuster......
ok, on orbitz (the cheap airfare site, hahaha) they quote thai airways and eva as $2500....im pretty sure its do to the time of yr. that im going though, cause if i was going sept-nov. it would be like $700 on some airlines. also, the flight from lax to siem reap or phnom pehn was $2500 the cheapest!!!!! is it just the time of yr. or what?? this sucks!!!! i really do appreciate all of your help diz. !!!! p.s. it looks like it would almost save $1000 or so to fly to bkk and then purchase the ticket cambodia when im already in thailand....but that is sooooo last minute!!! this totally blows and im confused !!!

Just curious as to if your travelling alone etc..
Only ask as last time you got all worried and cancelled a trip to Thailand yet you seem very unconcerned about Cambodia where the security situation is very different than safe old Thailand.. Dont get me wrong I am not advising you not to go but PP is a lot more frontier town.. The nighclubs often have security with an assult rifle.. Apocolypse now (famous in PP) was just shut down becuase one Khymer guy took offense came back and had a shoot out with another bunch inside the club..
My buddy is up there as I type for a week and I am not saying dont go, only it seems after your initial fears and worries about everything from safe sex and simple things that heading into Cambodia where after dark even big nighclub bouncer mates of mine keep thier own taxi all night and dont go around the streets in areas etc that its quite a turnaround.

livinlos......
im actually going with my husband.....so i feel a little safer traveling with a United States Marine than with my drug abusing girlfriend who's got about 3 brain cells remaining after all of the substance abuse etc. .......i actually think we may skip the capital (pp) and do angkor wat (siem reap) and then go to sihanoukville (a beach resort type place) and then on to bali or maybe phuket (still debating) i want to do phuket and he wants to do bali.....so i'll probably win but we'll see. any advice on bali or cambodia would be awesome!!!! he's very hesitant for us to come back to phuket cause he thinks it will "bring back bad memories..." basically, he's too chicken shit to deal with what he did last time we were there...guys can be such cowards....sigh.

Well I would do PP but then I am a drunk and a skirt chaser.. Temples etc just dont float my boat.. sure a day or two at Ankor would be ok but cross the world for them when I could be in a mad culture shock disco at dawn surrounded by stange and dangerous beauties and experiences, I know which one I continually choose..
Bali is a great place... Much more fcuked p that Thailand (roads / sewers / garbage /etc) but alos lots of history and culture around.. My brother is here on route to permanently living on Bali on the bukit peninsula.. He surfs so heaven for him is 2 seshes a day in bathtub warm water with double overhead ofshorre winds and glassy waves.. Bali and indo suit him great.
Kuta is the main town and party place.. Lots of touts and hustle.. Some good nightclub discos in the house / electronic music vien.. Lots of bars and some classy plases as you head west out of town.. Ubud is pretty cool up into the mountains a bit more with loads of boutique / spa type places to stay and its cheap as chips (or it was a few years back, thier currency is in crisis and it never really got over the asian currency scene of 96 / 97).. My brother has a mate whose house costs him 400 USD per year !! I really like bali.. cheap fun and lots to keep yourself occupied..

China gets the job done, but the plane will be packed with other cheap charlies, so service is standard and smiles are rare. I'm trying Eva this time so I'm hoping for a better experience, but not expecting it. Too bad I got spoiled on my first trip to Asia in 1st class, everything else is a letdown, but so worth the long flight when I land!

All I can say about JAL is that I would fly them anywhere, anytime. I am a commercial pilot in my other life. For eight months I refuelled airliners at McCarran Int'l in Las Vegas. Don't laugh! Most pilots have more hours on fuel trucks than they do aircraft. Anyway, to refuel their 747 (or any plane, presumably) you have to complete an eight-hour company course. Then a company mechanic is in the basket with you approving every finger-flick. And that is just to pump their gas. Their First Officer course is (I am told) nine months long. And the instructors walk around class with these whip things which they use to enforce a studious attitude.
Their security around their aircraft falls into the "machine gun" category. Not literally but darn close. I asked the company mechanic if I could see the cockpit. It took him about half an hour to get the necessary approvals before he handed me a badge.
Last... but certainly not least... the are not bound but the US's PC-phobia. IOW, their stewardesses are cookie-cutter gorgeous. Petite, cute Asian faces, demur. I almost married a couple on the ramp.
Hope this sheds some light on your predicament.
