Hotel information
Hi gang, I am coming to Karon beach in December, and I was looking for information about Hotel The Little Mermaid. Is there a joiner fee? Is it a decent place to stay?
Thanks very much.

The Little Mermaid is located in Kata and not in Karon, it's run by to Danish guys and from what have been told by people who have stayed there it's ok for the price, and there are no joiner fee. but it's abit away from the party area you can say, and if your not well known in the area i will say, take something closer to karon center as told by mark.

Hi, have a look to http://www.hotel-mermaid.com/,
location is not the best possible but in the centre of Karon action. Nice beach is also rather close.
I have only visited the hotel lobby March 2005, as they have really nice running WiFi connection.
My hotel South Sea Resort had no idea about Internet connection for laptop owner at all
20 Baht (or was it 30?) and then unlimited access time per connection for Your own laptop with WiFi - in case You need Internet connection at all ( I need and I will be there from end of Feb.2006 for 3 weeks due this nice WiFi option).

Hello again
Thanks for the info, there seem to be two seperate little mermaids, one in Karon, and the other in Kata, and this has raised more questions for me. Is Kata really isolated, or is it just a matter of going for a bit of a walk to the town centre?
Is Karon really hectic, and would there be a lot of noise at night?
are these areas all booked during december, or is it safe to just book a week, and find something later?
Can a guy find a bar gal on the beach, without much effort?
Thanks for the help

OK experts
Here is the solution to the problem!
There is the Hotel The little Mermaid in Karon, near the roundabout so close to the beach. It is now named chrystal hotel and there is the Little Mermaid Guesthouse that is in Kata which is both cheap and friendly.
What do you consider away from the action? opposite to the guesthouse there are 6 or 7 bars, and just 5 minutes walk you are in the Kata Bar Area wich Tintin will admit is nice.
Karon excist of 3 major bar area's
1) on the roundabout go landinwards and there are some bars on the road and in the sois on the lefthand side
2) along the beachroad halfway Hilton Phuket Arcadia and Kata (up the Hill) you get a road to your left connecting to Patak Road. from that road in Kata direction the 2nd and 3rd soi's are with about 12 bars (2nd soi goes around the corner back to the connecting road with 4 more bars there)
3) if you drive up de connecting road, just before the end you have a soi on the left with a covered bar area with a few bars and also in that area you have the 3 bars on Patak Road where some of our friends really like to end up called asia bar, farang bar and phuket bar.
Then in Kata there are 2 area's:
1) if you are in center Kata (Peach Hill resort) you are on a point with 4 roads (1 straight with 2 connecting on 1 side)
a) road to katabeach
b) road behind club med to Kata Noi
c) road to Patak road
d) road back to Karon
the big area is on the b road just after a few meters on your left there is a concentration of bars
2) the second area is on the end of the road to Patak road (c) on both left and right including scouse richie who will be open when the sun is comming up unless last customer is out before that (near the mentioned guesthouse)
Then there is a third area that is comming up on the south side of Kata beach (other end of road b) where you also will find lot of shops and bars.
So for all those people that think Kata is no action go there for a change and you will find it is less crowded then Patong and there are enough girls and for the dutchies: the beer is cheaper then in Patong, i think prices are down 25 to 40 percent

There are some nice beach (eating) bars just at the edge on the cliffs below Kata Beach Resort and The Boathouse. Great for sunset and not expensive. Sometimes there is a football match just on the beach in the evening on low tide.
