Overnight trips-keep your hotel room?

Most hotels have a pay one night cancellation policy, but for those BM's who take spontaneous trips(maybe to Phi Phi or Similans) of two or three days in the middle of your stay do you bother to check out?I guess it boils down to the price you put on the convenience of having somewhere to store your large luggage and no check-in/check out time hassle.I'm curious how people look at this.Convenience vs money.
Will hotels store your luggage after you check out?

PS does anyone know the differance between a Patong Villa "superior" and a "deluxe" room.On their website the descriptions are exactly the same. The pictures are the same. The view is the same. The price is the same.Am I missing something here.

Hi Mustang,

When I stayed at the Patong Villa, I had a "superior" room. This was on the ground floor with direct access to the pool.

I would guess that the "deluxe" rooms would be upstairs, and therefore have neither a view,or more importantly, the pool access.
Incidentally,if you do go to P Villa, ask for room 105/106, if they are available.
Nice rooms and convenient for the pool.

Yeah thats how I feel also, Thats the reason I book all my hotels in advance, For the first time on my last tour I didnt book a hotel when we went to Samui and it was a nightmare going around looking for a hotel, Went to about 9 hotels and ended up paying the internet price in the one we ended up in anyway, Never again.

I always try to book one night in the location of where I am going.. Arrive early enough to check in and then go around to find a good room and good location prior to going out drinking.. Dont really unpack and just shower and wash stuff out the bags..

Usually move the next morning.. Though of course now I have fave places in BKK / Samui / Etc..

Lots of folks do this, but just make sure you tell the front desk, as if they havnt seen you for a few days, they may call the police.

Thanks guys.Holding the room it is.
Does anyone take their passport for one or two night trips in the area,or just a photocopy and leave the origional in the hotel safe?

I also hate dragging around heavy luggage.marc26 did you pack light when you went to Cambodia?I'm hoping to get a locker at the BKK airport for my big luggage then go in with just a backpack.I don't want to really rough it,but for 6 days, three changes of clothes, extra shoes and basic gear should do it.I'll be flying to Phnom Penh, boat to Siem Reap,Angkor Wat then back to BKK from either PP or SR so thoughts from anyone on packing for or travelling in Cambodia would be appreciated.

Dawsy thanks for the tip.You may have just picked my room.

Hi mars,I think it's a "view related" option as you say but on their website the descriptions are identical. Kinda funny really,I think it's a misprint.Maybe I should email them.555555
