boring place, limited nightlife, everywhere closes early (remember this is where the Royal Family holidays). Very nice beach but empty. Also, not cheap - popular with Thai civil servants & this jacks up the prices.

Very sweeping statement totaly untrue in my opinion but its your opinion and you are entitled to it. I have been there 8 times and its great after being in bangkok-pattaya-patong its great to go somewhere less fast pace, dont go their expecting go go bars etc, but their are still plenty of beer bars an dplenty of nice ladies , nice beaches as well i would recomend going there for 4 or 5 days and making up your own mind, i always stay at the nana hotel in bangkok and from there you can get a mini bus to hua hin 2 times a day 0630 and 1430 for 500 bhat single you can also get a taxi for 2000 bhat the journey takes 2 hours 40 minutes. their is an airport in hua hin which is currently closed to passenger traffic basically because the king lives their 100% of the time. you can also get a bus for 85 bhat from the southern bus terminal if you are really serious about going pm me and i will give you better details including a good hotel etc

Spent 12 days in Hua Hin in February '05. There is a minibus service that leaves from Victory Monument every hour or so for only 150 baht one-way (in Feb. '05.) Take the skytrain to VM and exit the station to the right (north). You will see a curving road on the left side in front of a hospital. Follow that road around a short distance and you will see a small table on the left sidewalk where they are selling tickets. The trip takes about 2 hours to HH.

HH is fairly quiet, however there is nightlife all night long (until 7am) in an area just south of the Hilton. Ask the bargirls, they all go there after the regular bars close. A good bar to check out is Johnnie Walkers, no BGs, just a relaxing place for a drink. Management and staff are very friendly. Lots of locals hang out there.

I stayed at the Jed Pee Nong Hotel and was satisified. A better choice might be the Fresh Inn across the street from the Hilton. I looked at the place in Feb. and was told they were building a pool.

All in all, I will probably go back to HH, but not for a couple of years and not for more than 7 days.

Bangkok to Hua Hin, the best bet is a local taxi to South Bus terminal, Sai Tai Mai it's called. then get air-con bus down, usually stance number 6, bus costs 142 baht and takes 3 hrs tops.

Still being devoted member of PHUKET-INFO.COM forum (I even have my own black coloured T-shirt and I will purchase several more on my next duty visit at end of Feb.2006), I must say that spending more than 2 weeks in Hua Hin during October was pretty interesting and nice experience.
HH is totally different compared to Phuket. And cheaper (as I recognized).
But beaches are crap compared to Phuket, there is big chance to meet big jellyfish in the water (what might be not nice experience)

Yes, from December to March I will definitely select Karon Beach for my vacation.
But for other months vacation visit I will think seriously about Hua Hin as well, there is not so big chance of occasional rainfall then.

In case You like beach and sea swimming, do NOT stay in Hua Hin city (or village, how You call it ) , but take hotel in Khao Takiab Beach , this is about 5 kilometers south from HH. Beach is quite O.K., and You will see lot of locals especially on weekends.
Once more - HH is not as "touristy" as Phuket

Hi Baltic

I like HH a lot, esp. the pool playing. Some BG are pretty good, and it's great to play for free bar fine or free flowers....

The worst after the jellyfish are those fcking razor sharp rocks, have cut me up several times.

Best beach (thalay) is Sai Noy Thalay. Absolutely brill. No JF or rocks. very cheap to eat sea bass and shrimps with some beers.

I have some great contacts for rooms at Limelight, Lord Nelson and Jon & Eddie (Irish Bar) with their new 'orange' hotel 'Hacienda' ......

I'm sorry that I read this AFTER you had been to HH. I was there on 14th October and left on 20th for Phuket due to the floods. You could have possibly saved me a bob or 2....

I would have asked you a favour as you were in town before me.... do some investigating for me on my GF to find out if she was still visiting Lazy Dayz bar (after i had paid the Final BF in September and she promised she stop being BG and be my GF.....) and if you could have 'dated' her before I called her from Zurich airport on the 13th that I was coming back to HH.

Send me a PM if your going back again with your timetable and of course I will let you know if I plan to go to HH.

Regards

Hex.

Hi Hex,

I do hope that You will see this message sometime (I'm not very frequent writer in phuket.com forum, as seen also from my status),
but bad message is that in the BEST case I will go to HH maybe sometime in July 2006, not earlier. And this does not help You definitely, I guess.

My next "duty visit" to LOS will be in end of Feb.to half March 2006 to Karon Beach.
That sad - already can not wait for departure from f...ng cold Estonian weather, and getting worse all the time .
Anyhow - if needed, let's take contact through PM.
