Been bumped into first.. China is a good airline in the budget price range, I actually think that thier coach and biz are as good (coach better) than many premium airlines like KLM.. That said thier first is a fair bit less impressive than other first class seats I have been lucky enough to sit in..
I dont know how the price breaks down, I remember reading that China air had the cheapest biz class seats in the sky (per mile I guess) at one point.. Might just have been marketing spin or something..
For my money, good budget airline... Acceptable biz class.. First might be priced well but its not the slickest you have ever seen.

Good flights
Last week I flew Dynasty Class from Bangkok to Amsterdam and had a great flight.I know that the 1st class price is twice as much as Dynasty, but,I don't see just how much more they could improve to justify the 100,000 Baht + price.

I flew EVA on the last trip and enjoyed it a lot more than China. Better service and friendlier. Malaysia had an exceptional first class a few years ago, but you have to go to Taipei, KL, then BKK...too much travel for me.

Whenever i get the chance i fly China Airlines. LAX-BKK. I like the Dynasty Class. I have enough frequent flyer miles for my next trip in January.

Probably Kuwait Airways but not 'real' first class.

I just got home from Phuket and would not recommend EVA if you have connections on another airlines. We missed connections from Bangkok to Phuket on Thai Airways because of EVA's lateness and on return missed connections in Seattle to Anchorage again because of EVA'a lateness. EVA spent my time freely, 1 day of vacation and 6 hours of sleep before having to go to work. One was because they would not hold one of thier flights for the time it would take us to get from one gate to the next for 60-70 of us in Taipei. And the other because they held our flight for 1 1/2 hours after boarding us for 22 passengers that they would have had to put up in a hotel and pay for food for.
I agree the inflight service and accomodations were nice, thier use of my time was not.

i flew china economy, never any problems ams-bkk they also have upperclass on this flight ,bigseats economy service.
now i fly eva better deal for me leave 12.35 from ams ,arrive bkk 05.15 ,take the 07.00 flight to phuket arrive 10.00 in hotel lose nothing have the whole day.
leave with the last flight out of phuket to bkk, fly from bkk to ams 03.20
arrive 09.40 in amsterdam, eva has evergreen the luxe class on this flight bigseats economy service + € 200 on an economy ticket.last year they cancelled a flight they booked me over to buisinessclass klm.
so i like the thaipeh airlines my first choice is EVA and a very good second is china airlines
i fly the evergreen the luxe it's worth the money more leg space and a bigger seat for my fat cass

I booked in June for my November trip to Bangkok on China Airlines. When I tried to arrange my selections for my coach seats, I was informed that they only assign coach seats at airport check-in. Unacceptable! When I called their customer service they told me all international air carriers assign their coach seats at check-in. When I sent them an email about the situation they did not even have the courtesy acknowledge my email. I cancelled my reservation with China ($100 penalty) and booked EVA Evergreen service. Learned my lesson...

china airlines?
Hey, I see here many use the route from/to Europe or LA.
I plan a different one and wonder if anyone has taken this:
US East coast:
Philadelphia - New York - Anchorage - Taipei - Phuket.
I know it is a long haul and I also know that there is a long stopover in Taiwan.
But I just wonder if anyone has done this and how dead he was after arrival in Phuket.
I will only be going for a week so that is quite crucial with regards to preparation, e.g. sleep before.
I also will use only Eco class. Prefer to spend the money in Phuket or give it to my tirak. She will definitely apreciate it much more than China Airlines!
Alternatively do you know of any other flights PHL - HKT for around €1000?
Thanks for any tips,
Wolf

I routinely use China for my trips(AMS-BKK) and have no problems at all. I once had the good fortune to fly first class when they put a special offer on and I was the only person there. Talk about being treated like a king! The food was way too much, though, had to ask them to cut out a couple of courses.
Equally important, their time-keeing is very good.

I get on the flight in Anchorage. The airport in Anchorage is not a real fun layover and I live here (and like it). Coach is tolerable and I'm 6'2". I always go to BKK first for at least an overnight which means only about a three hour layover in Taipei. Taipei airport is not as grim a layover as Narita, but not nearly as interesting as Seoul Inchon. Sorry I can't be more help.

Hey nkped,
you are from The Last Frontier?
I did stay near Fairbanks some time ago for 1.5 years!
Great outdoors - like the cold as much as the heat in Thailand.
I did not even know that there are still flights going via Anchorage until I started checking!
If time would not be too short I would even consider a stopover there. Still have friends out there!
Cheers,
Wolf
