Wish I could help you, but I always end up leaving BKK for New years. From what I here BKK actually gets a little quiet around that time because most people like to go away for a few days (compared to most times of the year). Even though I live here I couldn't give you any recommendations... sorry!

Normally down by the river around the Grand Place they have fireworks and other stuff. Have been in Nana Plaza for several NYE's years ago, but got abit tired of that, with the police firing their weapons into the air.

Hi BattleCat.

I was there last new years eve and had a blast. It's not a massively big deal in BKK - most things just go on as normal. If anything, it's a quieter night than most to be out and about.

I went to a bar called The Office, just off Soi 33. If you're not familiar with Soi 33 it's full of bars - most of them named after famous painters - with elegant, well dressed hostesses, much more upmarket than places like Nana Plaza or Patpong. The hostesses do go with guys but it's by no means obligatory! If you buy them a drink they're just as happy to sit and chat. Most of them speak good English, they're very friendly and they're great fun to hang out with. Going there as a couple, I'm sure you won't feel intimidated or seedy and your old man certainly won't be under any pressure to get up to anything you might not approve of!

I knew a couple of the girls who worked at The Office, which is why I went there. I got there about 8, took one of them out for dinner then we went to the Luan Sum night bazaar - well recommended. It has loads of really interesting stalls, not just the usual tourist tat, some good bars and eating places and a big live music show.

We got back to The Office just after midnight and the party was in full swing. There were hardly any men in there at all - no more than three or four - so the girls were just enjoying dancing, eating and drinking. They were in a very affectionate mood. I had a truly lovely time!

Ok guys, I felt bad about not being able to give any New Years advice so I decided to do my homework...

In my continued research to find out more about the new bar called "The Fun House" (I discovered it in another thread here) I found out about an 'all you can drink' New Years party. Apparently the sight of the new "Fun House" bar is currently a place called "Corner Bar" located between Q-bar and Bed Supper Club on Sukhumvit Soi 11. The new owners are holding a New Years party before they close down briefly for rennovations in January, at which time they will change to "The Fun House". This place sounds cool because they are saying there will be a bunch of carnival themed games and you can win free drinks and stuff. Anyway, I e-mailed them and this is what they sent me about the New Years party:

December 31 - Corner Bar (Sukhumvit Soi 11)
OPEN BAR ALL NIGHT beginning at 19:00 (Includes a food buffet)
Only 1500 baht pre-paid or 1900 baht at the door

Ladies only pay half price

*Offer does not include our champagne selection
*Single drinks can be purchased

For more info. and tickets, please e-mail:
FunHouseBangkok@hotmail.com

... Since this will be my first New Years in BKK (usually I go out of town) I plan on checking this out with some friends who are visiting, I love unlimited drinks and food, you can't go wrong.
