I tried the BKK Marriott Resort and Spa, on the way home from XMAS tour. I'd booked 5 days...and checked out on day 2!

Very disappointing...too far away from anything. "Suite" that I had booked was much different than the "suite", I was given! (bad room) Added another 25-30 minutes drive to/from the airport.

I checked out, as an unhappy guest...and tried to book into JW Marriott. They were FULL. So, I found avery nice "platinum suite", at the President Solitaire Hotel. (Sukhumvit and soi 11 area) A good rate (comparable to JW), and a very nice room with excellent service and staff.

Service at JW was fabulous

I stayed at the JW Marriott on Sukhimvit for a total of about 10 days in Dec 05. The service was great - very friendly both to myself and my guests. Very convenient to Nana Plaza. Amenities are standard Marriott grade and comfortable.

I havent stayed at the Marriott Resort and Spa, but the comments that I've read about it on www.tripadvisor.com mirror the earlier comments in this thread - too far away from things, and not as nice as you might expect overall.

The PS is my favourite Hotel in BKK, I've stayed in the JW Marriott a couple of times but much prefer the PS, the location is a little more out of the way but the rooms more than make up for it.

Try priceline for the best rates for 5 star hotels on Sukhumvit. You take a bit of a gamble as you don't know which one you'll get but all are good (the others being the Westin and the Sheraton). I can't comment on the Sheraton as I'm yet to stay there but I found the Westin much nicer than the JWM.

Wink JW Marriott

I am currently at the JW. It is fabulous as far as service and services. Would recommend it for a "posh holiday". Other wise, next time...I will stay at the Majestic Suites. Only seen NEP so far and enjoyed it. The AngelWitch had a good show with many girls, but only 4 or 5 girls that cranked me up. The rest were ok to bed. Next time, I am bringing the wife to the island (yeah, yeah, yeah, like bringing sand to the beach - right? Well, my sand plays well with other sand - so Nyah! ) Oh! Lastly, thanks to everyone who has posted here - great info, great pics, great warnings heeded. Hopefully I will have more to post in the future.

I stayed in the marriot spa on the riverside. Found the rooms comfy and also found that it wasnt a problem getting anywhere because taxi prices are cheap and also the hotel can arrange to drive you places. There is also a boat that takes about 15 mins that takes you over the river. Staff where nice and friendly. No problems there

UK TV this week did a comparison in BKK of the Sheraton, Marriott and Hilton.
The Hilton won.
