Not sure of any in BKK..
Entrance to Soi easy left hand side is where you can find Am / Em.. Really good guy, hygenic, uses imported inks that dont fade fast..

Probably the most internationally reknowned tattoist in BKK is Jimmy Wong. His work has been featured in many tattoo mags. He probably isn't cheap. He has a shop out by Sukhumvit Rd. See address below:

I never really got a chance to check out BKK. But I've looked around a lot of tattoo places in Patong around Bangla and Beach Rd and they seem more like factories just churning out stuff.
I found a real good artist in Kata. I'm not sure of the name of the street but it's a Soi with all the bars in Kata. There's a tattooist named Num. He has a shop at the end of the soi and he usually does his work at 5pm-11 or 12. He specializes in Japanese traditional and black work. He's a modest soft-spoken guy but he's good people. He did my Japanese Koi tattoo which was actually a coverup of an old faded tattoo. The prices are pretty good I'd say. $800 job in NYC only cost me $400 plus a real good tip. I'd get another from him the next time I make it back there.
His telephone is 07-1671200. Tell him Christian from New York said hi.

I also looked into getting a tattoo while is LOS last time. The only thing is that you are supposed to stay out of the ocean, pool, sun and all the other things I enjoy. Best to be done at the end of your trip or at home.
Vancouver prices are a little high. Likely save a bundle if you went across the border to Seatle.
Be careful when getting a Kanji tattoo. One Kanji can have several different meanings and certain Kanji while the english translation will make sense the combination of them in Japanese or Chinese will not.
My wife has laughed many a times at foreigners who have Kanji tattoos that make absolutely no sense. Somewhat like the Asians you see wearing an english T-shirt with crazy logo's and sayings. My favorite was a chick on the subsway in Tokyo wearing a T-shirt that said "My legs are open for you" Obviously had no idea what it meant only that it was cool to have an english t-shirt.
If you want any help chosing the Kanji or want to make sure if it fits send me a private mail. More than willing to help.
Cheers,
Ashley

Bacitracin or NeoSporin the first 2 days then lotion, lotion, lotion for about 2 weeks.

If you are up to it...you might want to try bamboo tattoing. Especially since you're getting a basic all black design.
It does not pierce the skin as deeply as a machine does so you heal faster and you should be able to swim the next day. From what the tattoist said, salt water does not affect it so much. It takes a lot less time than a machine too. I had a small tribal piece done and I and I was good to go in the ocean the next day.
In contrast, my machine made tattoo just finished healing. I had it exposed to the sun just for a few seconds and it felt like it was on fire.

Go for it! It's probably the best souvenir you can buy and it saves packing space.
