Is it possible without to much effort?
Hi,
I've seen most of the well known highlights in Thailand and i'm looking a little bit around for something new.
Is there someone who can tell me if it is possible to travel by Bus/train/minibus/plane/(something else) from Bangkok to Anchor Wat in Cambodia? And what did you think of that trip? I think you can have the paperwork(visa) done at the border with Cambodia.
Please any advice or experience is most welcome.
Cheers,
Raval

There are flight BKK-Phnom Penh by Thai and Bangkok Airlines (or Siem Reap) airlines.
You can also fly Bangkok (or Siem Reap) ailines to Siem Reap. Siem Reap is the city where you can find the Angkor temples on a surface of 200 square km.

Overland travel is not so good in Cambodja I was told by local guides. The roads are terrible, otherwise it would have been interesting to follow the Khmer civilisation road from Pimai (near Korat) to Angkor.
I got my visum on the airport in Phnom Penh.

hey there.. i've done the road trip to cambodia a couple of times..i sorted my visa out on the kao san road a few days before departure.. roads are really bad but you get to see some good scenery and you travel through some cool little villages.. the bus itself was crap also, seats folded down in the aisle for maximum capacity.. you cross over these wobbley bridges which is pretty dodgy!! on the way back to thailand from phnom phen when crossing the rivers our boat capsized and baggage and all dumped in the river.. got rescued by some other boats!! the guy whos boat sank still even asked us for some money!! ankor is amazing all worth while...

Thanks
Thanks a lot for the information. It's most usefull. Especially the website: http://www.talesofasia.com/
I found everything I searched for on that one. Looks like an adventure by road, but that's just what I am looking for. But I also gonna check out the airlines, just in case the road turns bad again when I am there.
Thanks again,
Cheers,
Raval

Hey Raval,
I exactly did what you are thinking of:
Day 1: ~6:30am flight from bkk to siem reap
- Tour through Bayon and a few other temples, as well as Angkor
Day 2: Ta Prohm (tombraider was shot there) and back to bkk in the evening.
I booked it at the travel-agency-desk in the arcades of the Oriental Hotel, but i´m sure you can get it @khaosan-road as well.
Cost: one person ~580$; two persons ~500$ p.P. in a good hotel (angkor century)
can recommend it. you get a personal (!!) tour guide who guids you through the temples as well as a taxi to drive around, entrance fees are included, as well as meals (but no drinks !!)
please keep in mind to take USD with you !!

When are you going? My buddy should be back next week and he took an overland route Bus/Train Route to Ankor Wat. It's something like an 8 hour journey. I can get the exact details when he gets back since I want to do a similar journey on my next trip to LOS

Hi Lucky7,
It would be great if you can send me the exact details from your buddy's trip. I'm planning to go somewhere in August or September.
Cheers,

My buddy just got back from BKK and we talked about his overland route. It Took him about 9-10 hours to get to Siem Reap. To get there, he takes a bus to Aranyaprathet bus station, a tuk-tuk to the border crossing to Poipet in Cambodia. You need to get a visa to cross into Cambodia. Visa is $20. Watch out for the expedited visa scam. It cost my buddy 500 baht because they were intentionally taking their time. After crossing, he took a shared-taxi from the town to Siem Reap. Lots of scammers in the border town so watch out.
Costs
Bus to Aranyaprathet - 200 baht
Tuk-tuk to Poipet border crossing - 70-10 baht
Visa cross Cambodia - $20 Usd
Taxi to Siem Reap - 1800 baht. Find someone else to share this taxi with you
He took his route from the Tales of Asia website. Here is the link:
http://www.talesofasia.com/cambodia-overland-bkksr.htm
I am planning on doing this same trip in November.

Thanks Mosti, but I think I'm going for an overland option from BKK and back by plane from siem reap to Pattaya-Utapao (about $ 90,- one way) with PMT. 600 $ for 2 days is to much for me.
Cheers,
Raval

Hi Lucky7, I 'm going to do this option on the way from BKK to Siem Reap and back to Thailand I go with PMT to Utapao(pattaya). This way I don't have to travel the same way twice but still have the adventure of the overland trip. Thanks a lot for the information.
Cheers,
Raval
