Bangkok - Grand President Serviced appartments - a little warning

Just a little "warning" for those of you that go to Bangkok and may consider to use this hotel.

http://www.grandpresident.com/

I booked an "executive studio" at this hotel for my stay this time as I wanted to try something else and was planning on spending 11 days in Bangkok. The pictures featured on the website looked very nice and inviting and the prices weren't that bad either.

However, turns out that the reality was somewhat different from what is presented on the website. I must admit that I did not recognize the room at all from the pictures on their website - I went to the reception and told them that they must have put us in the wrong room, because it looked nothing like the one I had ordered. However, they assured me that it was the correct roomtype and that everything was ok. They sure had a very creative photographer doing those pictures.

The room was small, old and worn-out. The bathroom was dirty and the shower cabin had fungus in some areas.

The best surprise was however being woken up in the middle of the night by someone entering your room. I jumped out of bed and stood in front of a Thai man that had been givin the same room as the one me and my GF was staying in. Normally I always put the security lock on the door, but this night I apparantly forgot to do that. Not very comforting that the reception just check-in and hand out keycards to your room to another guest.

We checked out of that place pretty quickly again and went back to trusty Majestic Grande, which has exeptional service and great rooms.

That's the President Solitaire, stayed there before off season for only 3k. same group as Grand President.

Just the entrance hall to my room was half as big as some hotel rooms I've been, 4 poster bed, separate living area, full kitchen, jacuzzi. Great place to stay, just round the corner from the bed supper club. They'll even cart you around in a golf buggy thingy up to the main road.

To the original post, I think you'll find the Grand President has two "wings", and you were probably in the older one. My friend complained about his room there and they moved him to a new room that was as per the pics on the website.

That could be why then - we were probably in the old wing then because that room certainly wasnt anything like the pictures indicated.

I did look at the other hotels that the group has in Bangkok but chose the Grand President because I felt the location on Suk. Soi 11 was better for me. Actually the location is pretty good with a very good restaurant (Zanzibar) on the street and close to Nana BTS. However, I probably wouldnt stay there again but I wasnt aware that they had an old wing and a new wing.

I tried out the Royal President further down Sukhumvit after staying in the President Solitaire once. The situation sounds similar to this. The room I had was considerably worn out and quite different from what I had expected. I think you have to be quite careful with some of these hotels.
