thinking of staying @ the ambassador in may...

I am thinking of staying @ the ambassador hotel in may. Any suggestions whether or not to stay there? I do believe there was a beer garden spot in that area quite some time ago. Perhaps 2 to 3 years ago? I know they are doing heavy construction there, does this effect the entrance to Ambassador?

Where else is a popular place to stay on Sukhumvidt for you guys that travel there a lot? I want to stay close to all the bars and action..

the ambassador in may...

This was written on another board so this is not my experience.

Ambassador Hotel

I had made a booking for 16 days. At arrival the requested and confirmed room was not available for two days. Several inquiries at the reception desk. The hotel is not girlfriendly anymore. Annoying inquiries by the securityies at late night and they ask to check in the girl at the reception desk. I checked out the 4th day and will not stay there anymore in the future.

If your a NEP visitor having to cross Suk rd all the time would be a pain in the butt. Why not stay at one of the hotels recommended by BM's, Dynasty, Nana and Majestic.

The Ambassador was once a good hotel with a good location and the most wonderful beer garden in the front to sukhumvit. The beer garden is now gone and the spot is uses to build a regent hotel/condo.
I will recommend you to stay at the Landmark. This is a very good hotel indeed and very much girl friendly. The majestic suites is difficult to get to and off by taxi because the busy sukhumvit. But it is of course a matter of how much you intend to spend as the Landmark is a bit expensive.

I used to stay there when I was on business trips in Bangkok during the year 2000 and was really hapy
BUT I visited the place last year and was really disappointed: poor quality of rooms (similar to Nana but inacceptable for the price asked); same same for the bathroom. There were also ID checks during nighttime in front of the lift in the tower aisle. No problems for me as my girlfriend was also registered but the guard was really unfriendly and we were checked every night except the 3rd and last one. Needless to say that they will probably never see me again because of that, unless I have no other option! It's a pitty because I really liked the place in the past...
I've been told by another BM that there is no ID check on the other aisle of the hotel. But there is a joiner fee quoted in their folders available in the guest rooms...
